Me too. I'm really starting to favor the idea of a split 12 team league, picking up NMSU. It would give the west schools 6 games a year against a team one or two states over and could lead to some nice rivalries. That's the one thing I don't like most about North Texas, no true rival. Perhaps our series with SMU will lead to one, we'll have to seriously elevate our program for that to happen though. I know it's been discussed a million times before, but I think this setup would be great for the conference. If we wanted to go to 14 I put some candidates in for the 7th team on each side. All of the schools mentioned below have tremendous potential. It's going to be fun to watch the sun belt grow in to a legitimate FBS conference that's respected over the next decade.

The SBC needs to be an ALL SPORTS conference. WKU went 1A. USA is picking up football. UNO and Denver are out. Only UALR remains. Sorry, UALR, but we need a football playing school in your stead. Pick up NMSU to replace UALR and add LA Tech for a 12th member, then have a championship game. UALR would be a great fit for the Southland Conference who will be losing Texas State and UTSA.

I drove past the stadium a couple of weeks ago and it's looking good (ate at the Outback nearby)! I'm making it a point to drive over for the ULM-UNT game this fall and check it out! Looking forward to seeing the place live and in action.

You realize the only way ULM and LT could remotely be in the same conference is if they are in different divisions?
LT wouldn't want an annual slap fight with its nearest lil' sis.

That's exactly why they would be in the same division.

If Louisiana Tech wants back into the Belt, they should be in the division the conference selects. They certainly ain't the boss.:odie:

A championship game doesn't benefit the SBC. It is an extra expense. It is an extra game (and possible loss) for the division champs. That could knock them out of bowl consideration, or, if we're ever so lucky, knock them out of an undefeated season like NIU the other year. Beating another SBC team won't launch any SBC team into the stratosphere of NCAAFB. Also, we'll have kicked out a great member who has been better than average in just about every sport, and we've never had any issues with them.
Also, you forgot kicking out UNT because they don't have baseball, MT because they don't have swimming and diving, etc.. "ALL SPORTS Conference", right?

For the record, UNT has made it pretty clear that once the football stadium is finished a baseball program will soon follow. After baseball, the "all-sports" thing becomes less important. The big four are Football, both basketballs, and baseball. I am also of the viewpoint that UALR needs to add football or search for a new home. I just don't think they fit in that much anymore with USA adding football, and UNO and Denver gone.

Is having a school without football a detriment to any of the other members? Is our presence holding the Sun Belt back? If so, how?

RE: UNT: Latest Stadium Photo Update
I live about 2 miles from the new stadium. I have a nice view of it from my back yard. I drive over and check it out every few weeks to see how it is going. The black iron home side entrance gate and fence is now in place. These pictures are great, but they don't truly represent the size or quality of the structure. Anyone who has a chance to drive up and see it will be amazed.

Interesting take on UNT's new stadium from University of Houston fans. Keep me in mind that they are currently trying to fundraise to build a 40K seat stadium at a cost of a 120 mil. They currently only have 40 million.
