Louisiana’s Bridges Named First NFCA Division I National Player of the Week of 2011

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Senior first baseman Gabrielle Bridges of Louisiana has been named as the first NFCA Division I National Player of the Week of the 2011 season, the Association announced on Tuesday.

Bridges went 7-for-10 with an astounding seven homeruns over four games during the first week of play. She ended the week with a .700 batting average, a .850 on-base percentage and an unreal 2.800 slugging percentage.

The Lafitte, La. Native also scored 11 runs the week, while drawing 10 walks, driving in 17 runs and going 1-for-1 on stolen base attempts.

On Saturday against Prairie View A&M, Bridges became the fist player in program history to hit three homeruns in one game, a game in which she also went yard twice in the same inning.

The 17th-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns are off to a 5-0 start to their 2011 campaign and will resume play this weekend in the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational at Lamson Park in Lafayette.
