ASU Football to Face Oregon in 2012, Adds National TV...

JONESBORO (1/14/11) - The Arkansas State Athletics Department announced Friday that it gained a guaranteed national television game on ESPN or ESPN2 for the 2011 season during the process of adding national-power Oregon, which finished the 2010 season ranked No. 2 in the final BCS standings, to its 2012 football schedule.

The Red Wolves will face the Ducks at 54,000-seat Autzen Stadium in both team's 2012 season opener on Sept. 1. The one-game contract calls for a $950,000 payout to A-State, which will play a current member of the Pac-10 for the first time in school history.

The date, location and opponent for ASU's 2011 ESPN or ESPN2 game has not been determined yet, but already gives the Red Wolves at least one nationally-televised game for the third consecutive season. A-State played a school-record 10 televised games last season, including three on national TV.

Per ASU and ESPN's written agreement, ESPN will use its best efforts to schedule the chosen 2011 game on a Friday night during September or early October.

yuck National TV Friday game. We better do some strong convincing to get the area high schools to play their games on Thursday that week or we'll lose alot of fans

I am a little confused, did ASU make the deal with Oregon or with ESPN? The game with Oregon is in 2012... but there will be an undisclosed game in 2011 that will be nationally televised as a result?

Apparently ESPN was trying to help Oregon find a game in 2012.

As for the TV game in 2011, in today’s Jonesboro Sun newspaper, Dr. Lee,ASU Athletic Director said, “through the negotiating process we (ASU) were able to work in not only the game and a nice guarantee, but we were able to get a national exposure out of it as well”.
