SNY to be available on Comcast in Houston

Comcast-to-Xfinity rebranding to start

Quote:Changes include 42 additional HD channels and 32 extra standard-def channels. In the sports realm, HD additions include CBS College Sports, ESPNU, ESPNews and ESPN 3D, and standard-def additions include The Mtn. (naturally, just as TCU is gearing up to leave the Mountain West Conference), World Fishing Network, SNY, SportsNet Bay Area and SportsNet New England.

This means that Big East fans in Houston (with TCU fans too!) will have access to the Big East Network on the digital tier of Comcast or the sports tiers of DirecTV and Dish Network now.

I'd still love to see the Big East Network get a deal with one of the Houston locals like KTXH, KIAH, KTBU, or KUBE. But, this will do for now.

This is part of a new thing that Comcast has been doing across the country where they've been taking other Comcast-operated RSNs and putting them on sports tiers on out-of-market Comcast systems. Michigan and Atlanta owned systems received several of the RSNs right around New Years.

Note that the pro sports carried on these out-of-market RSNs are blacked out.

SNY carries a lot of Big East football and basketball plus Rutgers, Syracuse and Uconn programs.

That really is great news. I'm all for anything that gets the Big East more exposure.

I'm just surprised that they've only started to do this now. DirecTV has been offering all of those RSNs on the sports tier for many years.
