In 2011 Middle Tennessee will welcome their third defensive coordinator in three years and their fourth offensive coordinator in four years.

I think this was best for both sides. Both the offense and defense had taken a huge drop off from the season before. Best of luck to them and hopefully our next hires work out. I really wish we could've held on to Tony Franklin and Manny Diaz.

I wonder how good Troy would have been if we had Tony Franklin and Vic Koenning at the same time...

Unfortunately Belt teams are not paying assistant coaches enough. Sadly any move is usually a move up in $$$.

Maybe MTSU should have let Stockstill move on and paid Diaz and Franklin to stay.

Money and experience is relevant. The SBC should stop considering itself the minor leagues and start making moves to develop and keep talented coaches. There is a ceiling to the money being offered by the BCS schools. We just have to make it a little bit harder for them to pick off our coaches. After all we sit in the middle of the football universe, the southeast.

This may be slightly off topic, but I would like to see all SBC schools have a "Wood Selig" clause for all head coaches of all SBC sports (or at least the big 4 of men's & women's bball, football, & baseball). Wood Selig was WKU's former AD and he had a clause in our bball coach's contract that if they left for a "power conference"/AQ conference coaching job that they have to do a 4 year home and home series. This is how WKU received a home and home series with UGA when Felton left and USCjr when Horn left.

I like that "Wood Selig" Clause. That would slow the talent drain.

RE: Both Coordinators Leaving MT
Stockstill has something like this in his contract...

"Middle Tennessee State: If Rick Stockstill terminates his contract without cause and becomes the head coach at another Division I school, the university gets to choose between accepting a $200,000 payment from Stockstill or requiring his new school to enter into a contract for a single game against Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn."

USA Today: Coaches' contracts carry bonuses, provisions for unusual tasks

Only other Sun Belt school listed:

Troy: Under his new contract, dated June 1, Larry Blakeney "will continue to assume additional duties" as an assistant athletics director without additional pay specific to that work.

Blakeney also "is expected to be actively engaged in the annual soliciting and selling of tickets" (he gets a $5,000 bonus if the team exceeds 13,000 season tickets for a given year).

In addition, in exchange for his TV show payment, Blakeney "is expected to establish and promote a statewide weekly" show.

Franklin wasn't about money, he wanted to go coach with his old friend Sonny Dykes and Diaz left before any of Stock's offers, I remember when it looked like Stock was going to ECU there was speculation as to whether or not we could get Diaz to come back to be the HC less than a month after accepting the DC position at Miss State.
