From the Bird’s Nest:A new level of incompetence
For years, we’ve noticed a difference in the level of officiating in the Sun Belt Conference between games on Wednesday or Thursday and games on Saturday. For many years now, I’ve introduced officials before the game by saying “It’s Saturday night in the Sun Belt and your officials are…”

Quote:...the reality is the Sun Belt used to have guys who, at least during the week, were regularly named to the NCAA tournament field. Many of them have been final eight or final four officials. But with that agreement gone by the wayside, the Sun Belt now uses officials with much less experience, some of which, in fact, have been cut by the Southland Conference......

RE: From the Bird’s Nest:A new level of incompetence
One thing that I notice about Sunbelt officiating is that the bigger conferences "let them play" where as in the Sunbelt we call more fouls.

Well in the NCAAs they let them play. So it is a disservice to our teams to call ticky tack touch fouls. That's my number one complaint.

I used to get heated over referees. I recorded a couple of games at Diddle and rewatched parts when I got home. There were a couple of "bad calls" that I couldn't believe when I saw them live, Diddle arena had booed the refs for them, but when I watched them on TV they were good calls.

So, after that I kind of gave up on blaming refs for much of anything.

But I do prefer a let them play attitude.
