Notre Dame Indy Contract
As they are a Big East school (technically) what is the dollar figures on the ND contracts per year? What do they get from the BE on top of their NBC deal?

BYU is rumored to make 2 million per home game so it could easily be in the 8-10 million range. They also would have the smaller WCC tv deal for non football.

ND gets nothing from the football contract obviously but gets an equal share from the basketball media revenue.

I understand that. I was curious about what the hoops share is in terms of revenue and what nd gets from nbc.

They get about $15 million a year from NBC, and $2 million a year from the Big east basketball TV contract. They also get shares of NCAA basketball tournament credits, grant money from the NCAA (only 1/3 of NCAA pay is paid out through the tourney credits) and other merchandising money.

Thanks. I don't want to be greedy but do you have any source that says 15 million?

It is more or less common knowledge. The did not release the details of their last contract, but that is the generally accepted figure.

Thanks.

So we have BYU in the 6-8 million range and ND in the 15 million ballpark for standalone football contracts.

Big East non-football = roughly 2mil
WCC = who knows

I heard BYU was getting $4M a year.

I would not be surprised to see the Big East's TV deal reach $10M a year for a school playing all sports.

The question is would the Big East give ND a full share in addition to letting them have their NBC deal just to get them in the football league.

If the Big East hoops deal is worth $2M a year, you are really only talking another $8M a year. I think it's the best $8M the Big East could ever spend.

I would caution that there is always a lot of mixing and matching of numbers (not just ND, but all rumored conference $). ND's $15 million likely includes other sources, like BCS and BE hoops money, not just NBC money. This source says they got $9 mil from NBC for 2010: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3452161

If you read the article that is linked, that is the old contract that expired this year.

I believe that the $15 million dollar figure that is mentioned often is for the new contract that runs from 2011 through 2015.

No, the $15 million number is purely from their NBC TV contract. They make another $6 million or so from the Big East.

Could you explain the difference in the bolded amounts? Is the BE hoops deal 2 mil or 6 mil? I have a hard time thinking any minor sport would consititute the 4 mil difference in your reported amounts above. Is all of the 6 mil the television deal or what else is it?

I have BYU's numbers at about 7 million per year or 1 million per home contest.

ND is at 10.625 million per year including BE basketball money.

The $2 million is their portion of the TV contract ($32 million annually divided by 16 teams). The additional money is their share of NCAA tournament revenues, merchandising, conference entry fees (from the conference USA entrants) etc. The exact distribution numbers have been posted before (but I cannot find them right now), but I tend to recall that the payouts for basketball teams ranged from about $5 million - $7 million a year, with Notre Dame being near the top.
