UConn targets
Per Boston Globe
According to sources at UConn familiar with the process, Hathaway has a working list of six candidates:

■ Former Syracuse coach and current Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni.

■Former UMass coach Mark Whipple.

■Delaware coach K.C. Keeler.

■Chris Palmer, coach and general manager of the Hartford Colonials of the UFL.

■New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride.

■Former Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini.

Paul Pasqualoni and Mark Whipple will be the best two options.

From that list of loser I would only look at Gilbride and his chicken offensive schemes that Buddy Quoted all those years ago.

If I'm a UCONN fan, and I'm not, I am not too excited about any on that list.

That list is simply speculation, NOT who we are actually going after. We just hired a search firm today.

Phil Fulmer has expressed interest in the job...

if it is in fact true that they upped the admission standards then the huskies are doomed, they can't compete with stanford to get the best and brightest.
like another poster said, we will become the northwestern of the beast.
another mistake is being cheap and promoting from within, uconn being new to the fbs cannot afford to loose fans and set the program back 10 yrs.03-banghead

If true, this might not be a bad choice to build up the program. He's one hell of a recruiter, and would keep UConn competitive at the least...

Hope it isn't the search firm we hired on our first go-round 03-banghead

Optimism isn't your strong suit :). I can't imagine the admission standards are that bad. I actually thought the whining Edsall had done about them was an excuse for his poor recruiting...could be wrong though.

We hired Chuck Neinas, who got Mack Brown to Texas, Bob Stoops to OU, and apparently is trying to get Fulmer to UConn. He's a Bad-@$$ in every sense of the compound word.

Just passing this along about Chuck Neinas for consideration only without comment. This from an article about Miami using him to hire Shannon then hiring him again to help replace him.

"Here’s an abbreviated list of some of Neinas’ greatest hits over the years.

Colorado (1999) - Gary Barnett
Texas A&M (2002) - Dennis Franchione
Baylor Football (2002) - Guy Morriss
Notre Dame (2002) - George O’Leary (whoops!)
Notre Dame (2002) - Tyrone Willingham
Colorado Football (2005) - Dan Hawkins
San Diego State (2005) - Chuck Long
Kansas State (2005) - Ron Prince
Washington (2006) - Tyrone Willingham
Miami (2006) - Randy Shannon

Okay, Neinas has also made some good hires along the way, like Urban Meyer at Florida."

I thought that it was an unsubstantiated rumore about Fulmer, until I heard it on Espn that he is interested in the Uconn job. That would be very good for the BE if Uconn could him. The guy had a couple of down years and was fired one season after leading Tenn to 10 wins. Crazy.

RE: UConn targets
Fulmer was never really accepted by a very vocal minority at Tennessee, who felt he stabbed Johnny Majors in the back to get the head coaching job in 1993 while Majors was still in the hospital. They finally got their revenge by forcing Fulmer out after a few down seasons, and now the Vols lay in ruins...

I never thought Fulmer was the greatest coach. But I felt his recruiting allowed him to compete at a high level. It certanly wasn't his intellect, because if his game plan wasn't working, it wasn't going to. But he definitely can recruit, and that would help UConn more than anything right now...

The good news about Fulmer is he was able to recruit nationally at UT so that should help at UConn.

Fulmer was always able to recruit a monster offensive line, with the depth that allowed him to play up to 10 players on the line - rotating them regularly. His O-line was almost never tired, and THAT was THE secret to his success...

You are leaving out half the story. Anyway, the thing that hiring Neinas tells me is that UConn is serious about hiring a quality "Name brand" coach.

RE: UConn targets
A lot of rumor about Rich Rod to UCONN. C J Keeler would also be a great hire. He is the HC for Delaware playing to FCS national championship tomorrow. There have been a lot of interest for UCONN's job after Edsall left. BTW, I am glad he left on his own cause UCONN would probably never fire him. He has taken UCONN as far he can. It is time for a change. People that say UCONN is not a good job is crazy. Edsall was paid well at UCONN, he made $1.7M this year and will be higher next year. He was being paid at market value.

Agreed. Keeler is starting to come up more and he'd be a good hire. He's a winner, has a good (though not always great) attack, and most importantly CAN RECRUIT. He'd also be less expensive than other candidates.

I didn't leave anything out. I simply linked an article. Draw your own conclusions. I hope you hire another Edsall or better. Just be careful to stay away from the Kragthorpes.

I understand he's made some poor hires, but he has made great hires too.

My point is...Hathaway (UConn's athletic director) is taking this next hire seriously and is willing to go out and get a real head coach instead of making a conservative hire. I'm thrilled about that.
