The Washington Post is reporting President Barack Obama has asked officials to make "appropriate workplace accommodations" for federal employees who are also nursing. From the story:

The order is required by the new health-care reform law, which mandates new breastfeeding rights primarily for hourly workers in the private and public sectors.


But Obama asked the federal government to go a step farther by establishing new guidelines for all federal employees, no matter their status, according to White House aides.

The legislative branch already has breastfeeding policies. In the House, Congressional staffers who are nursing may use special rooms in the Canon House Office Building, after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi established special nursing rooms in 2007. Senate offices and committees also must make breastfeeding accommodations for staffers.

In fact, I know one - my friends wife breast feed her child to the age of 3, and was militant about it to friends, family and to her workplace. Luckily she is a nurse so the accommadations were easy to make....

Yes...but...normally a woman with any common sense will use the pump discretely during lunch and store the fluid for later. If you remember the OKC bombing, the building housed a child care center, so it makes sense that they'd be able to breastfeed in that circumstance as well.

The pain and inconvienience of lactating for 5 years greatly outweighs any perceived benefits one receives from taking 15 min in the boob room.

As bizarre as it sounds...There have been cases discovered of women breastfeeding children(usually boys) as old a 10/12yrs of age. There is a disorder associated with this.
