WKU football gets ESPN 5-star recruit
Jonathan Dowling a class of 2010 safety just committed to the Tops after leaving Florida!

He was the number one safety in the class and no. 10 overall prospect according to ESPN last year.

ESPN 5 STAR!!

Coming to WKU

Wish you guys luck ! :odie:

When he was kicked off the team in November, sources said it was because he also missed classes, team study periods and was disrespectful to people on staff in the athletic department. He also clashed repeatedly with Heater

The only logical reasoning for this is that WKU recruiters watched Pony Excess last Saturday night.

Dowling is originally from Bradenton, FL where one of our assistants was a high school coach and where Taggart played HS football. We have established a Bradenton pipeline since they took the reigns.

In another article that I read on Dowling (can't remember where) it mentioned that he acknowledged the fact that he was immature and could have handled things differently while at Florida.

RE: WKU football gets ESPN 5-star recruit
Interesting quote from Dowling:

After committing to Western Kentucky over the weekend, though, Dowling told Rivals.com that it came down to a conflict with his position coach, Chuck Heater.

“I don’t do everything right,” Dowling told Rivals. “I’m not an angel, but I feel like they could’ve done a lot more things to help me instead of trying to break me down. That was a lot of problems I got into with my position coach. With him, it was never, ‘Good play, you did good,’ it was always, ‘Why the ‘F’ did you do this or why did you do that?’ There were never positive things coming from him. For the first time in my life, that affected me and made me not like football. I had to get away from that.”

Dowling admitted to skipping practice.

He was dismissed and didn't quit so there is a bit more to this than a disagreement with the position coach. More than likely, he hasn't been under that kind of pressure before and probably mouthed off more than once. Missing practice is a big no-no. Who knows what else?

Hopefully he gets his collective act together and WKU has a "good get." If not, I could see some trouble for the WKU coaching staff.
