Ok, I will play the championship game game.
A lot of good responses concerning attendance and how it would appear on television and that will go a long way towards perception. Also, travel can be a detriment. So, here are my thoughts and feel free to hammer them....I know you will!!
New Orleans: Home to one of our bowl games and home to the conference headquarters. Fun town to party in and plenty of things to do. Good to support a bowl game site. Problem, how much local support would we get? Also, even if we brought 30,000 in for the game, it would still look empty....the Superdome is huge.
Mobile: Home to one of our bowl games. They (Mobile) support bowl games. Good to support a bowl game site. More centrally located. Holds around 45,000 so a good crowd (30,000) would look good on TV.
Little Rock: No bowl game. A little off as far a centrally located. How much would they support the game, especially if Ark St isn't there? Stadium is nice (went there for the ULM Ark game). Seats 55,000 so a good crowd (30,000) wouldn't look too bad on TV but still just over half full.
Dallas/Miami: Non-starters in my opinion. Outliers as far as the conference goes. Would have to use a large stadium. Attendance would look terrible. Travel much harder unless it is local teams. Dallas would require one of the Louisana schools, Ark St, or NT for decent travel. Miami would require FIU or FAU. Everyone else is a hump!!
Best record: Rewards success. Good crowd would look good on TV (easier to fill our current stadiums). With the construction that is going on and the current stadiums, the stadiums would look pretty good on TV. Problem again is travel depending on who the team with the best record.
I say, if for some reason we end up with 12 and a championship game, we go for Mobile.
