You still need a CC permit (which I've been told is one of the easiest to get in the country).

You can read the police report in the Northwest Florida Daily News. It was a valid stop but sounds like a bogus charge. In Florida, a gun in a vehicle has to be "securely encased" and not "easily accessible." Coffee had his gun enclosed in the center console. The statute is supposed to be liberally construed in favor of the gun owner. I'm sure the charge will be dismissed or some pre-trial diversion reached.
