Milwaukee Journal: We need to duplicate Chris Christie
Quote:New Jersey's governor, Chris Christie, stopped by Waukesha the other day to stump for Wisconsin's Republican candidate for governor, Scott Walker, and he was explaining the value of being direct when negotiating with political opponents. One cannot, he said, merely tell foes what they want to hear.

Frank discussion? Straight talk? Yeah, something like that. Said Christie, "If you don't want to be on the team, you bet I'm going to take a bat out and hit you."

Christie talks that way, which is why in 10 months of being governor, he's become a YouTube star via clips of him confronting hecklers. What has made him a star among conservatives is that he has tamed powerful public-sector unions whose pay and benefits were driving New Jersey's cost of government far beyond taxpayers' toleration. He talked big, followed through and won.

very good article. What upsets me is when detractors criticize this whole mad as hell thing that people like christie, angle and paladino have got going on. I'm like, who isn't mad as hell? I know i am. if more of us regular people were in the public eye, these detractors would see just how many people are mad as hell

Agree. Christie has the right formula. The US has always preferred strong leaders. GWHB soared in the polls when he confronted Dan Rather. Others should follow suit.

Of course Christie does a great job of framing the question so he can win the debate. That's an invaluable skill in communication.

However, I want to be sure Christie is getting the job done. He talks a good game, but I'm cynical enough to "trust but verify".

don't make me cry. i live in the city and would love to see paladino win, but it probably won't happen. we'll be stuck with cuomo, the great secretary of housing and urban development under clinton. just what NY needs

Being 'nice' or 'polite' have surpassed being honest as a virtue in our society. It's prevents us ever seeing an honest debate, instead every four years we get to watch presidential candidated throw slogans around for a few hours.

I love watching parliament go after the prime minister. You get to see all the backbiting that you get on Fox and MSNBC but it's face to face.

I know. I grew up in Western New York and my wife in the City. Watching Rudy clean up the mess left behind by Dinkins and Koch turned her off to Democrats as executives. Marrage to me turned her off to the left all together.

The minute that Spitzer had his 'incident' Cumo was going to be the next elected Governor. I disagree with 99% of what Patterson believes but at least he could be tough with the democrats in smAllbany. Cumo will rubber stamp any tax or spending program that hits his desk.

The NJ budget is balanced. With a Dem supermajority in the state house.

Hah! Yes. See my signature. (Can you see my signature?)

Here it is anyway: We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. ~ C.S. Lewis

From The Abolition of Man, a 1943 book by C. S. Lewis.

The final chapter describes the ultimate consequences of this debunking: a distant future in which the values and morals of the majority are controlled by a small group who rule by a perfect understanding of psychology, and who in turn, being able to "see through" any system of morality that might induce them to act in a certain way, are ruled only by their own unreflected whims. The controllers will no longer be recognizably human, the controlled will be robot-like, and the Abolition of Man will have been completed.

If that ain't a perfect description of the current ruling effete, I don't know what is.....

I think he's more statesman than politician. Mark Sanford "used" to be like this.
