RE: Hope this isn't personal for our teacher members
I offer no excuse for this teacher doing this, if true. If this did happen, disciplinary action is warranted. However, lets put this situation in the business world......if I were in a big meeting where my boss was giving a presentation and obviously made a mistake, I could announce in the meeting that my boss was "Lying to everyone" in the room. I guess I might be technically correct, but it's not a good idea to make my boss look like a fool to all of his employees. I might be better off waiting until the meeting was over to question the mistake or at least question the mistake in a manner different from "He's Lying to everyone". IMO, the students questioning isn't an issue, maybe the manner is.
Look, with around 3 million teachers in the U.S. it isn't surprising that a small percentage do some goof ball things that make it into the news. I'm guessing that on any given day though, there are hundreds if not thousands of good things that teachers do that are never "published". Yes, there are bad teachers, but there are also plenty of good ones.
And no, I'm not a teacher. Used to be one, but left the profession into the business world long ago. I have however, "walked in their shoes".

Maybe.
But, would you believe the FL teacher trying to suspend kids for selling candy, claiming it was drugs?
Or suspending a kid for riding her horse to school?
Or the one in Bellfontaine who was arranging tricks during school hours?
Out of all of these, which is the most plausible?
....or the one in Marietta that was suspended for bringing a Tweety Bird key chain to school?

Straw man argument. Nothing indicates that the student didn't simply point out the mistake, and the teacher escalated it.
And you know what, maybe a few people at Enron, or at some corporate shareholder meetings ought to stand up and point out lies. Maybe that's not a bad thing.

RE: Hope this isn't personal for our teacher members
I've seen my share of these "authoritarian" teachers during my time in the trenches. Most often they are the ones with little/no control of their classrooms. Sometimes it takes years of mentoring for them to develop a style of classroom management that is effective. Sometimes these people never get it. Those that lose are the students, who will learn little in chaos.
This example seems extreme even to me - somebody who had thought that in 25 years in the classroom, I had seen it all. Not even close, it seems. I'm with those that would raise a stink over this and demand an apology and at the very least, some kind of disciplinary action and/or mentoring.
The closest thing I had ever seen to this was when one of our non-teaching folks was preparing a letter to be sent home with students. It was chock full of spelling and grammatical errors. I was rather horrified and took a copy of it to our principal, to alert him to what was being sent home on the school letterhead. He balked at doing anything about it because the writer was not only a good guy but a minority helping with some issues at the school. To me, the letter was an indictment of the education that students got at our school. Parents would not know that this person was not a teacher.
While I'm no longer teaching, these kinds of things making news drive me nuts. There are many who are not cut out to be a classroom teacher. She sounds like one.

Is this stereotypical of some in the left leaning progressive educational system? I'm inclined, YES. Educational system is failing.

Might have to agree. The one I found on the net is dated differently.

Good call. I can see it happening, but I don't see it getting to that point. Surely a teacher would research before making such an ass out of himself/herself. Then again, ya neva know.

Look, I know you have a near obsession with public education in America and pointing out every moronic screwup that happens. I did note that you ignored the comment about how hundreds of good things are ignored and only the stupid stuff gets airplay. Why, because it sells.
The fact is, we are asking our education system to do way more than it should do......things beyond teaching in the classroom, then throwing a fit for the stupid actions of a few individuals.
Quite frankly, you are correct that many schools (particularly urban ones) aren't particularly successful, but I still contend that a school is normally a reflection of the community it serves.

it doesn't. I did not mean Alex Hilliker. I assumed the teacher, wrongly was a women. Adam, the so called teacher, is just a confused Nazi.
