The Big East FB programs recruiting BCS quality players?
IMO I think the answer is no, maybe WVU is only program that seems to actually recuit high level talent. The Big East may have a "BCS" bid but this is mid major level football. Pitt has given Wanny 5 years to recuit high level talent and they get beat 30-3. Syracuse,Uconn,Cincy,UofL,USF,Rutger etc all aren't getting it done. I'm amazed Randy Shanon at Miami could recruit and put a better team on the field in less time then Wanny/Esdall/Schiano. I'm just relizing maybe our league doesn't deserve a BCS bid.

I never thought Wanny would win The BEast at Pitt. I never thought he was a good NFL coach either. His teams always seem to find a way to fail. I've never shied away from stating it either...

I stand by it... 07-coffee3

Pitt has recruited high level talent. It is the coaching of that high level talent that is the problem.

Come on it has to be more then simple "Coaching" Wannstadt has been coaching College and NFL football for over 30 years, that 30 years of experience. Randy Shanon maybe 10-15 years of experience. I think it has to be the type of football player they are recruiting IMO. Miami and Shanon recuited Elite level talent. You don't get beat 30-3 because of coaching. It also hurts the "coaching angle" when Miami would have beaten SU,Uconn,Cincy,Rutger,UofL,USF by the same score or worst.

it doesn't matter how loing he's been in fb, he kissed the right ass as an assistant, uconn has reinstated the right players and won't hesitate 2 pull frazier in favor of endres. uconn helped the beast last year by destroying a solid sec team and will beat ` another sec team vandy badly, mark my words........
wannabe is being exposed, his true ability as a leader is showing, both the ad and him need 2 go, who knows u might steal edsell loll.

RE: The Big East FB programs recruiting BCS quality players?
There's no question that Pitt and WVU have regularly brought in BCS talent. I mean, look at Lewis, Romeus, Baldwin, etc. Even Rutgers has been recruiting pretty well. UL - kind of died with Krag, but looks like Strong is creating buzz and is recruiting again. Skip seems poised to get it going at USF as well. Still, it's not exactly Ohio State or Florida level talent or something.

The rest of the programs in the league have had to rely on coaching up the talent. 3-4 years ago, Cincinnati, for example, was just getting to the point where it was winning recruiting battles with all the MAC schools, and it's now to the point where it's winning with some guys considering the mid-level Big 10 and ACC (And THEY'VE won the league these last two years). UConn is pretty much in the same boat. We'll see what becomes of SU and Marrone.

Regardless of the talent, the game coaching of just about every BE coach leaves much to be desired.

RE: The Big East FB programs recruiting BCS quality players?
Rutgers has largely recruited BCS level talent for years now. Look at the 2006 and 2007 teams and how many players from those teams are now in the NFL either starting or getting significant playing time. I'm pretty sure its more than anyone else in the country had in their 2006 team. We really should have won the National Championship but the Big East was deep as hell in talent and coaching back then. I don't think the talent levels in the conference have changed that drastically since then but the coaching stinks on ice in some ways. Schiano if he just let someone come in and run an offensive system with near total autonomy could really build a powerhouse at Rutgers. He's great with defense and special teams playcalling, good at recruiting, great at working with the trainers and strength & conditioning coaches to bring the best athletic shape out of our players.

All this being said everyone's all panicky because we're having a down year. Wake up folks the Big East will be fine. Nearly all our teams are all young, half of our coaches are green behind the ears. All these schools are committed to excellence things will work out.

In most cases BE teams are 2nd,3rd, or 4th fiddle in their own state. That is a big part of it, the league is dominated by those type of schools. The schools that are flagship programs are in area where there aren't many D-1 athletes. I continue to believe that the BE needs to make this a city vs flagship argument ala Louisville vs Kentucky. Those match ups we can win. If the losing and poor recruiting continues you will see coaches and schools leave the Big East for greener pastures. I could easily see Pitt, Rutgers, UConn and Syracuse going to the ACC once a PAC 12 super conference is formed.

I'll give you this makes things very uphill. The only flagship in a state that produces a high-level of D1 talent is Rutgers. Although Pitt's a national name and the clear #2 in PA. WVU is a national name. Louisville is the clear #2 and really can challenge pUKe big time in every way. I think its uphill but far from impossible.

I think our schools have some talented players but you really cant compare them to the numbers and depth that programs like Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Miami recruit and can accumulate.

That the key area where a lot of schools fall short - depth. WVU has pretty good depth, except at a couple of positions. Pitt has the same kind of depth that WVU does though, and the Mountaineers have shown they bring in the kind of talent that allows them to compete with anyone. But Pitt falls short on coaching...

I'm not a fan of Wannstedt. I never have been - and everybody knows it...

Right now it is coaching. Remember a few years ago when the league was doing really well, multiple Top 25 teams, winning BCS bowl games? We had some terrific coaches.

Now... not so much.

These things go in cycles. The BE is down this year. Just a few years ago we were outperforming everybody's expectations. We can afford to have cycles: our BCS bid is secure unless we go into the tank for an extended period of time.

A win for WVU in Baton Rouge tomorrow night would go a long way to helping the BE this season. Let's hope it happens.

And yeah, Pitt's showing last night was absolutely pathetic.
