Union hires non-union minimum wage no-benefit protesters
... to protest Wal-Mart paying non-union workers. Bonus points: Wal-Mart was paying more than minimum wage.

They were partisan hacks for the '08 elections, but they seem to have regained their sanity somewhat.

This has been going on in Downtown Cincy for years. Temp/Fake protestors are hired by a local Union.
It is incredibly pathetic. Same freaking Carpenters Union sticking their nose in private constructions deals,
usually office space construction.

I did construction inspection for USACE to put myself through school. Great hours in the summer (60+), and they let me make my 30 hour schedule around my classes, best college job ever.

Anyway, I was at a site where there was an annual debris removal going on. The contractor was not union but because it was a USACE project they were bound by Davis Bacon. The debris site was at the foot of a dam, with one tiny little dirt access road up. The path always had a semis Running up or down.

A union rep tried to drive his freaking little four cylinder rice rocket into the riverbed (I had a bronco, would not have tried it with anything less)...

Did not ask for permission to be on my site, did not heed the sign that said authorized personnel only, and did not bother to so much as honk his horn when he started his decent. He jammed up two trucks and wanted *them* to back up.

I damn near had him arrested but I did not want the hassle of going back to the office and example myself. He did all this because he wanted to get some of the workers to try and unionize the site.

The warm feelings that growing up in a union household were pretty much done away with that day and I saw that the unions were as quick as anyone to risk the lives and health of others in the name of their bottom line.

How about the people of Walmart figure out that they work at Walmart, they have a high school kids job. You don't see the high school kids that work at Target complaining, its the 50 year olds that work at Walmart the do the bitching.

Your point is that it is easier to take advantage of high school kids than 50 year old.

The money you spent on your college degree was wasted.

My point is that if you work at a register at Walmart or Target you really don't deserve much above minimum wage. Or if you are stocking shelves, you don't deserve $15 an hour. If you are a 50 year old doing this work, that isn't the fault of the company you work for.

Exactly who's fault is it that unemployment is at 9.6% nationally. With underemployment closer to 20%. There are a lot of people unemployed thru no fault of their own.

Well, I'd blame unions and the government, but that's just me. And just because someone is qualified to be a loan officer and they lost that job, does not mean they deserve to be paid more than what a cashier at Walmart is worth. Sucks for them, but the job they are working at isn't that hard. It's honest work, but not worthy of more than $9 an hour. I'm not sure what you're trying to argue. If you're arguing that a Walmart employee working as a cashier should be paid a living wage, then I guess we just have to disagree, because I feel that is a job for a high school or college student to have working part time.
