I think most people I was around who watched him play even as a freshman were concerned he may have been a step slow, but were always very impressed with his court vision and shooting ability.

I'm sure Swing could have gotten 7 starts had he not been playing behind Slaughter at the two. After all... somebody has to start. You forget that OMV had considerably less competition his freshman year due to the tragedy of Danny Rumph. As such he was able to get some experience. As I recall Ty Rogers played the point quite a bit that season as well. Both Rogers and Valdez were quite turnover prone as I remember (though not as much as Sally to be sure). I don't think Rogers would have been playing point had OMV been lighting the world on fire.

As far as always being impressed with OMV I severely beg to differ. You may have been impressed from the start, but I remember well the criticism of OMV as a frosh on the haven. Some of it was vicious.

This I absolutely agree with. Freshmen are unreliable. Even good ones. My point (and I don't think you are really disagreeing with me) is that a player (Swing included) is not "overrated" just because they don't pan out thier first year.
