RE: ASU- Top 5!
Well there's something really wrong with this ranking when Texas Tech is the second highest listed school in Texas. Schools like Rice are almost excluded due to size. MIT and Carnegie Mellon are the only schools under 10,000 enrollment on the list.

If you're looking at quality of education, I don't think Texas Tech ranks in the top five in the state in any sensible ranking.

There are many questions about such a survey.

1. Obviously, who did they survey? What fields were these companies in? What size companies were they?

2. What sort of employees were these recruiters supposed to pursue? Entry level? Doing what? Data entry? Mail clerk? Not a surprise that MIT wasn't placing lots of mail clerks recently.

3. Location, location, location. Being near big cities, capitols, especially DC helps with gov't and non-profit hiring. And even though they "weighted" for size, lets fact it a recruiter is going to try to minimize time and maximize profit by tapping into large universities. They aren't hitting up Kenyon or Oberlin, no matter how good their reputations.

Seriously? There are about 300,000 people, 600,000 cows, and 45,000 coyotes within a four hour drive of Lubbock.

I didn't mean that was an explanation for every surprise on the list. It was probably a bid effect for ASU, ZSU, PSU, etc.

I don't know anything about your T Tech surprise. Maybe it was a Bobby Knight effect.

That may be as good an explanation as anything. Otherwise, your explanation sounds reasonable. I'm sure MIT and CMU are the ones that really get in on the basis of strong academics. Each has about 5,000 undergrads, 10,000 total students.
