RE: Cuban model doesn't even work for Cuba
There was another American with Goldberg when he met with Castro. She is an expert on Cuba and confirmed what Goldberg reported.

Me thinks it is an example of when you say something and know what you meant to say but entirely different words come out. You are SURE that you said X but in reality you misspoke and said Y.

I doubt you would see Castro admit that communism has/is failing, so this explanation makes the most sense.

This sounds eerily like what happened to Chef.

Quote:Cuban announced on Monday it would lay off "at least" half a million state workers over the next six months and simultaneously allow more jobs to be created in the private sector as the socialist economy struggles to get back on its feet....

"Our state cannot and should not continue maintaining companies, productive entities and services with inflated payrolls and losses that damage our economy and result counterproductive, create bad habits and distort workers' conduct," the CTC, Cuba's official labor union, said in newspapers.

They were both on NPR this morning.

What I found most interesting was to learn that the Obama administration has opened a loophole in the Cuba embargo which allows Cuban Americans to travel freely to and from Cuba and to financially support their families in Cuba. There are now some 30 daily flights between Miami and Havana filled with Cuban Americans carrying goods to their families such as large flat screen TVs.

How many years until Cuba is more free-market than the U.S? I'll set the over/under at 6.5.

Yeah, because that's what they need the most.
