Tailgating, Satellite Dish set up
I am using Direct TV and really like it but need a little help setting up a
mobile unit.

Have d12 standard receiver, 2LNB 18x20 dish with tripod. I have connected everything together outside correctly. I can only get as far as selecting searching for channels or do
an automated search for channels. They screen tells me that some channels have been found, then I get the Direct TV logo and "searching for signal" message. Since I can't connect I can only use the Menu board for the TV, not a Direct TV menu.

I have all of this set up on my patio and have tried to moving the dish around and I have a good idea of where to point but I am not getting a nibble securing a signal. Help is appreciated.

Call Direct TV to get the exact coordinates. Its a mother to get it the first time. Took me about 8 hours to get a beep. Once you get it, you'll be good to go. Its the side to side adjustment that got me - not the left/right or up and down.

You can also cheat and buy a cheap handheld sat signal directional finder from radio shack. Wish I would have used one to save me the headache the first time around.

The hand held satellite finders are easy to use. The hard part is lining up the dish...

I'm thinking the receiver is setup for a different dish or swm instead of multiswitch. Try some of the suggestions here.

Thanks for that note. I read through those comments. I will probably have to make the switch in the house on the remote. When I hook everything up outside and hit the menu button I only get the "Sony" TV menu screen not the Direct TV menu screen.

You don't have a selector switch for the remote's mode?

I have the Direct TV remote programmed for Sony TV and it works well, inside.
Outside is a Catch 22, if I don't get a satellite signal I can't pull up the Direct TV menu. The remote works fine but the default menu goes back to the Sony menu.

You should get a hand held satellite finder. With one of those, no matter where you are, you can find the satellites...
