He is going eat offensive linemen for snacks.

Projected to get significant playing time at UT. Glad we are not facing him anytime soon.

Eeesh...they already have a good d-line, and with their new pass happy offense they're running, I'm starting to think they could be a darkhorse in the conference this year.

ASU has already petitioned the NCAA for him to become eligible immediately. He's got a good shot because he is moving to be closer to his infant son. Ive seen kids get waivers to be closer to grandmothers they barely knew...

We're going to have to score though. Being a pass happy offense doesnt make us better offensively. still need recieving and QB weapons, and we are unproven at QB. and dont have alot outside of our top 2 Wide Recievers

Good luck with that. Usually the NCAA doesn't follow any kind of precedent that they had set previously.

Honestly, it's starting to look on paper like it might be the best defensive unit we've had under Roberts.

Arkansas State picks up huge transfer
5:55 AM Mon, Jul 12, 2010 | Permalink
Brett Vito E-mail News tips

Arkansas State picked up a huge transfer this week, as a lot of you probably saw. Derek Johnson, a defensive tackle from Texas, is headed home to play for the Red Wolves.

Johnson's father played for ASU.

Johnson has a son who was born prematurely, which is part of the reason he is transferring and will be the basis for an appeal to the NCAA for a waiver that will allow him to play this season.

It looks like ASU's window of opportunity to challenge in the Sun Belt closed over the last few years with the departure of several key players, but the addition of Johnson would be a huge boost for ASU. The Red Wolves lost star defensive lineman Alex Carrington to the NFL after last season.

Here's a link to the story Matt Roberson, a friend of the MGB wrote for the Jonesboro paper: Johnson to transfer

The NCAA Granted Johnson immediate eligibility today. just a few days after he sent the appeal. he will be on campus in a couple weeks to begin preperations for Fall practice. He may be a starter by the time conference play gets into gear

RE: 4-star DT transferring to ASU
ASU has been having defensive guys drafted almost every year, and this still has the makings of our best defense yet.
