Never say never. But even if the contract is cut in half as most experts think it will, our disbursement is still higher than what we will get from the MAC or Sunbelt.
Not a slam on either conference, just a simple fact. Future negotiations can alter this situation. We shall see.
In 2008-09 Tech received $1.4 million between conference sharing and NCAA turnback. That was a year without a Boise appearance. Tech spent $2.5 million traveling. That's a negative $1.1 million
ULM on the other hand received just over $700,000 between conference and NCAA while spending $1 million. That's a negative $300,000.
If we look at 2007-08 when Hawaii made the BCS it looks like this.
Conference + NCAA $1.7 million, travel costs $1.8 million, a negative $100,000, not a bad deal at all. ULM received $500,000 and spent $900,000 a negative $400,000.
With TV revenue falling (commissioner says it, I believe it), NCAA revenue falling (you can look that up it is on a six year downward trend), and the WAC unlikely to maintain the #2 spot in the BCS distribution pool, there is simply no way the WAC is going to distribute the $1.4 million it handed out the last time a team failed to make the BCS.
Yes there is a chance for a fat payday this year. BUT no non-AQ has ever made the field with a loss. To get there, Boise has to travel to Washington DC and beat Virginia Tech, travel to Wyoming to beat a middlin' Wyoming team, and then host an OK Oregon State team. If they get past the first three weeks of the season, they might have a chance at the title game, but stumble once or twice and the BCS is out of play barring a miracle.
