Why would you be surprised ? Just about every team in the Sun Belt is looking at options. Check the boards of other conference schools.

Here's an example:

Anything is better than this dying sun suck conference. For the life of me I can't understand why ANYONE would be against a conference jump. Budget...that's going to be changing soon. Travel...we don't travel well as it is because no one wants to see us play these sucky schools that no one cares about. So what if BSU leaves the WAC...it's still light years ahead of what we are currently in. Their members are better recognized schools, they play better against named opponents, and they have a better opportunity to jump into a better conference in time. Lets face it...if getting into a better conference is a stepping stone then moving into the WAC is our first step. No other conference is going to be looking to raid the SunBelt, even the CUSA is looking at the Mtn West instead of the Sunbelt. If we pass on another opportunity our football program is doomed. I for one would rather attend a game in our new stadium against Fresno St, Hawaii, or Nevada than ULaLa, or FIU. It's a no brainer

If the North Texican ill-Eagles cannot compete in the "sucky" Belt, how are they going to fare in the "much better" WAC ?

At least we'll have all members playing baseball 05-stirthepot

I see you keep talking the money game. Why don'y you throw in that the 3 lowest budgets in the conference have finish in the top half of football in wins. FIU has the biggest budget and finishes in the bottom just above NT and WKU. Don't hate a program that does more with less.

If UNT wants to go, let them go.

It would make our league a heckuva lot more geographically feasible.

(And everyone would play baseball).

RE: Very surprised by a UNT thread
Here's the thing. I've complained before about how Troy's OT loss in the GMAC cost the league nearly a million in BCS money.

Contemplate this.

With Boise gone, the WAC falls from #2 in BCS revenue sharing to #3 if Montana is the replacement and IF Montana is able to maintain a high level of play (ie. win 5 or 6 games or better in FBS). If La.Tech moved to the Sun Belt, the WAC falls to #4 unless they add a crappy FCS then they might fall as far as #5 and the Sun Belt is pushing CUSA for #2.

But based on where UNT is right now in football. UNT replacing Boise and the Sun Belt doing nothing still drops the WAC to #4 and moves the Sun Belt to #3.

While I don't want UNT to leave and I don't waste much time on ignorant posters, his idea of going over and being Boise's replacement is a win financially for the Sun Belt.

The occasional CUSA talk comes up from time to time, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone bashing the Belt like that.
I just thought the majority of UNT fans had the same opinions as most stAte folks on the SBC. Most like this conference, and are excited with its potential.

I think UNT and WKU stand head and shoulders above the rest of the conference in fans who bash and tear down the league.

Yet they sit at the bottom of the conference in football. Funny how they think they can win in another conference when they can't win in this one.

Agreed, every program in the SBC is looking to the future. I see nothing wrong with the thread, some very good points made for either scenario.

Same lunatic fringe that expected to walk over the Sun Belt in football at WKU.

I've hung out with quite a few of the folks at GMG.com and best I can tell the nuts either don't go to the games or the regulars won't associate with them at games.

Every school has them, even us newbies to FBS football FAU/FIU/WKU/USA.

Personally, im very happy with the SunBelt.

1.) Improving Teams- Troy, MTSU, and FAU have made noise in the FBS world
2.) Growing Populations/Good Weather
3.) Decent travel geogrpahy (Denver excluded of course)
4.) Improved Bowl Picture- 2 Gurantee's now, and a few solid back up deals (no Memo of Understanding)

The only thing I would truly want to jump from the belt into would be for AQ status. All of us would take that opportunity in a heartbeat.

I think the fanbase would be a lot more content with the SBC if we weren't concerned about the potential emergence of UTSA or Texas State. I believe a great deal of the current gnashing of teeth on GMG is worry that we'll be leap frogged in the state pecking order if one of those schools blows up in the WAC.

Personally - I really like the SBC.

Not one bad thing said about the Belt or its members. They are just talking about what might happen if the conference is raided. The MT Rivals board just make the NT fans look worse than they already are.

Go on record that your school would so no thanks to a CUSA invite. Or in the case of Schelly a Big East invitation.

Everone is going to look out for themselves and do what they feel is best for the future of their individual school. You'll find fans of every Belt school that 1. hate to be here 2. like it here 3. don't really care. It's just human nature.

RE: Very surprised by a UNT thread
UTSA has never played a game.
Texas State has had four winning seasons in the past 18 years.

Here is what the three WAC defectors did in the Sun Belt and overall while in the league
NMSU 15-11 20-27
USU 5-9 6-17
Idaho 7-19 9-38

Here is how they've improved in the WAC
USU 11-29 13-46
Idaho 10-30 17-43
NMSU 5-35 14-48

I know my school would jump at the chance to leave. I just don't start topics putting down the Belt and its fellow members. ASU has made strides in basketball and baseball with the hiring of Brady and Raffo. Many facility face lifts have been made. Brady got new locker rooms for basketball. Baseball added more seating and a deck in right field. Football is putting down new turf this summer. ASU may have a small budget, but we are ahead of NT in football and on par with NT in basketball.
