Girl Outs Mother's Citizenship Status During First Lady's School Visit
Excuse me, kid, I'm the ICE "Cream Man"... where can I find your Mom? 03-lmfao

Girl Outs Mother's Citizenship Status During First Lady's School Visit

A second-grader may have unwittingly blown the whistle on her mother's citizenship status during Michelle Obama's visit to a Silver Spring, Md., school -- and right in front of Mexico's first lady.

Margarita Zavala joined Mrs. Obama for a visit to New Hampshire Estates Elementary School Wednesday.

During a question-and-answer session, one girl took her immigration concerns to the top, telling Mrs. Obama that her mom says that "Barack Obama is taking everybody away that doesn't have papers."

The first lady replied that they have to make sure people living in the United States have the proper citizenship papers.
That's exactly right," Mrs. Obama added.

"But my mom doesn't have papers," the worried girl said.

"Well, we have to work on that," Obama said. "We have to fix that and everybody's got to work together in Congress to make sure that happens."

For her mother's sake, we hope the girl was talking about the Washington Post.

The first ladies also participated in gym class, hopping and skipping with students and even joining them in the parachute game, the Associated Press reported. They preached the importance of healthy living for both body and mind, and they were there for the free lunch program, helping students pass bowls of broccoli around the cafeteria.

New Hampshire Estates Elementary won the USDA's Healthier U.S. School Challenge Silver Award in 2009 for teaching healthy living. The school serves more than 400 pre-kindergarten, Head Start, and first- and second-grade students -- including many from countries in Central America and South America -- and is involved in a program designed to protect and restore butterfly habitats across North America, the AP reported. Mrs. Zavala gave students she met butterfly books from the Mexican state of Michoacan.

What I don't get about this. Why doesn't ICE follow that woman to the meat packing plant she works at and arrest the CEO of that corperation. Why do we bust the little guy but ignore the source of the problem?

Mach, I'm with you on that, but then what do we do with an unemployed mother and her kid? Social services or deportation?

Excuse me? The "little guy" is the source of the problem.

What's a plant supposed to do if they bring in forged documents? Keep a State Dept official on site to verify all of this?

BTW, did you know you can't ask a person's citizenship at a job interview? Oh you can, but you incur risk that they'll sue for discrimination.

Maybe this isn't likely, given that most illegals don't have the papers. But if businesses were more strict w/ their hiring, there are immigration attorneys who would send in a legal, get them rejected, and then sue. Count on it.

So Mach, if you're sincere about dealing w/ the "source" of the problem (which you seldom are, b/c you refuse to do honest root-cause analyses, preferring to take the uninformed, righteously indignant position), look at the immigration proponents who are facilitating this, over, under and through the laws.

Are you sure that's right torch? I believe you're allowed to ask if someone is legally authorized to work in this country... but I don't know what you do if they say yes and aren't. If the company is sending payments to the government for the SSN she gave them, then they're probably not doing anything wrong.

Funny how SOME liberals (not saying anyone in this thread) want companies to enforce laws they don't want the police to enforce.... especially in industries where illegal workers mught be prevalent like Ag (profiling). IOW, prfiling is ok

I would agree that to some degree employers don't do a good enough job in determining a person's legal status and this carries over to the folks who cut our lawns to the guys a day labor centers.

What I don't understand is that the democrats are mostly saying they favor stronger border controls, once the illegals get here they protect them. That position doesn't make sense.

I guess it's like the situation with the Coast Guard and Cubans. If you try to get across, we are supposed to chase them down, give them medical attention if they need it and send them back. But if they make it past us they are legal.

We have meat packers who take out want ads in Tijuana papers and even offer them free transport. We know who these companies are. ICE agents even have agreements that they can only arrest 10 or less because it will disrupt production too much at the local plant. You need to watch Food Inc. It's on PBS for free. I'll look for the link. and Torch... these people wouldn't be here if they weren't being exploited for cheap labor. Another ancillary benefit of NAFTA. We flood Mexico with cheap corn. These farmers now need jobs. Meat packagers take out want ads in Mexican papers. Surprising what work conditions an illegal will put up with. The middle class gets squeezed again.

CURRENTLY, .....Employers are only required by the Fed. to maintain I-9 documentation. They are not required to mail it to the Fed., only maintain it for inspection. Employers are not required to VERIFY I-9 documentation. The first thing an immigration lawyer tells the undocumented is to start a business and apply for a taxpayer ID, then use that ID number to get a job. Then the wife and kids, father and mother can use it as well. Aunts Uncles whatever.

Besides, They can get whatever fake ID they need at any flea market in the state.

W2's that don't match up with IRS info, this sent back to employers, but there is not a requirement for employers to do anything but inform the employee, if possible.

but if you want your bacon at two dollars a pound........................... There's a nasty trade off here that America has to come to grips with and by evidence of the spin room. We can't agree on much.

People who want to squeeze labor (typically Republican) should be all for illegal immigration. Unions (typically D) should want a fence built a mile high. This is such a screwed situation. Democrats should push for heavy ass fines for any undocumented worker at a factory. You kill two birds with one stone. You're not looked on unfavorably with hispanics (an increasingly important voting bloc) and you help labor.

What happened to the "wonderful" e-Verify system that was supposed to be put in place by the government? Is it working?
