From Drew's Blog

Mettenberger, who would be a redshirt freshman this year, likely would have won the starting quarterback job for the Bulldogs. At 6-foot-5ish, 230-240, he’s that good. Problem is, he got in a little bit of legal trouble.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up at Troy. It’s cold in Cincinnati. However, if he does come, I’d think it would cause a quarterback or two here to transfer. Basically, you’re keeping the seat warm for a guy who, on the field, compares to Ben Roethlisberger with his skill.

Too bad it seems hes got Ben's taste for sexual activites in the state of Georgia as well. 05-stirthepot

sounds like he would be a good addition to your program. I'm not making a jab or anything at the guy or your program but wasnt he released from the UGA team for conduct violations (arrested for underage drinking) or was that one of the other qb's? overall sounds like a good addition though

Southern Judicial Circuit district attorney J. David Miller said the charges "were the result of Mettenberger grabbing the breasts and touching the buttocks" of a 20-year-old female Valdosta State University student in the bar. He was sentenced to 12 months of probation and 80 hours of community service

i'm not going to say this was too harsh or too light a punishment because i just don't know what the norm is for an offense like this. aside from this, wish him and Troy the best of luck especially with the other news story involving some Troy players.

Okay...who on here did not participate in underage drinking? Cast the first stone...AND...who here has not copped a feel in a club? I do not condone the behavior, but being young once should lessen the hypocritical comments just by some that have been slapped in the face before...he's paying his debt and hopefully he has learned that actions have consequences, even if you are an athlete, in this day and time...(gettin' down off the soapbox...)

calm yourself buddy..... 04-chairshot if u didn't read i was just asking a question because i was uncertain. i am by no means calling him big ben because he isn't. nice biblical reference though for the record however it is now irrelevant because no stones were cast at anyone. like i said earlier and i will say it again, it was not intended as a jab either at the character of the guy or your program just as a simple clarification. thanks for coming down from your high horse by the way.

I covered this kid when he was in high school and I've been on the field with him during combine workouts. Believe me when I tell you that he has the physical skills of an NFL QB. He's got great size and his arm strength and accuracy were impressive. How he'll do against college competition, I don't know, although he certainly excelled in UGA's spring game.
Now, saying all that, I do not know him personally and don't know if this incident of his was an isolated, out-of-character occurrence or you can expect more of the same in the future. Based on talent alone, he's certainly worth taking a look at.

Uh, non-consensual groping of a woman is pretty high up my "no-no" list.

[Insert joke about how he'll need some higher crimes in order to fit in at Troy.]

If he assaulted that woman, he does not deserve to play football again, especially on a scholarship.

If he did come to Troy, it would be on a short Blakeney leash.

This guy is a really good player that I really want to come play at Troy, so I'll defend him to the end. So, it is okay to sexually assault women in bars right? Who hasn't done that?

Have you copped a feel in a club? If so, you deserve to get your teeth kicked in you sick bastard. Women are not just walking nervous systems with tits and asses, free for you to feel whenever you want. I mean, honestly, WTF are you saying here?

If he did come to Troy, it would be on a short Blakeney leash.

Is there such thing as a short Blakeney leash?

Blakeney has a history of rehabbing players. Those who don't cut it, go away (as this thread has shown).

Reports are floating out there that former Georgia quarterback Zach Mettenberger is looking at Troy, according to THIS REPORT (cast aside the Troy State dig).

sounds like he would be a good addition to your program. I'm not making a jab or anything at the guy or your program but wasnt he released from the UGA team for conduct violations (arrested for underage drinking) or was that one of the other qb's? overall sounds like a good addition though

Translation:

This guy is a really good player that I really want to come play at Troy, so I'll defend him to the end. So, it is okay to sexually assault women in bars right? Who hasn't done that?

Have you copped a feel in a club? If so, you deserve to get your teeth kicked in you sick bastard. Women are not just walking nervous systems with tits and asses, free for you to feel whenever you want. I mean, honestly, WTF are you saying here?

Well said. It's unacceptable behavior and the whole 'boys being boys' idea is ridiculous.

I have seen a lot and done a lot and I'm not perfect. I know that the one's that cry foul the loudest are usually the biggest hypocrites there are. With that said, I was raised in a house full of women and haven't done what he has, but I've seen stuff similar to it. The point remains, as I stated earlier, is that there are people like you that are quick to pass judgement to maintain some sort of aires about yourself. I'm not here to back down from any internet bullies because my opinion is mine, not yours. I have the intelligence to speak for myself and I will never need you to translate anything for me. I typed what I meant, not what you wanted it to mean...
