Gold hits record high at US$1,245 an ounce

Gold prices hit a record above US$1,245 an ounce, with demand propelled by investors seeking shelter from the eurozone debt crisis, analysts said.

The metal extended a blistering run, soaring as high as US$1,245.07 on the London Bullion Market.

"Gold has extended its gains ... setting fresh highs," said analyst James Moore at specialist metals website TheBullionDesk.com.

Concerns about contagion from Greece's debt woes have attracted inflows of cash into gold, which is widely regarded as a safe bet. AFP
