Would this basketball conference then keep the BE basketball units, but each school would be able to sign their own deals for TV rights, etc.? Couldn't they form a football colation that was not a conference to help with scheduling, but not be a revenue source?

They lose their FBS vote.
They probably lose their seat in the BCS.
The units stay because they are still a legal hoops league with a big cushion.
They can continue to negotiate their own TV and bowl agreements and maintain their scheduling.
