Umm we already have a law that cracks down on illegals using form I-9, we don't need a new law just enforcement of the current one.

Once again, don't deal with issues...just add more gov't.

1. Get rid of incentives for people to come and stay.

2. Enforce rules on books.

3. Stop giving contrary direction to employers: Employers can't ask the question of citizenship. They open themselves up to liability. Even in cases where the position requires a security clearance, an employer can't ask. How friggin' stupid is that?

Do these three, relatively simple things first. Re-evaluate the situaiton. Then we can see if more gov't is needed.

I-9s are useless. Employers are not required to verify any document submitted on an I-9. Further the documents are not submitted to any agency, but just maintained by the employer for as long as the employee is working.

I submit that #1 is pretty much all that is necessary to return to the days of "migrant" travelers instead of "permanent" ones.

No one wants to get rid of immigrant. We want the laws obeyed and legal immigration. Is that so much to ask?

Actually enforcing the law? No, that's not too much to ask.

But a lot of powerful people have an interest in maintaining the influx of "undocumented" people.

And they think identity theft is a problem NOW.

And your social secuity number is only to be used for tracking your social security account.

It does says right on the card that the SS# is not to be used for Identification. However employers have been using it as that by just referring to it as an employee ID #, forever.

Someone please explain the left's reasoning on illegal immigration. They want to beef up border security and prevent employers from hiring illegals - to me that's a sign they want to stop illegal immigrants. But if an illegal gets past the border and doesn't need a legit job the left says he can stay and maybe even become a citizen. WTF?
