with many bowl teams playing 1 or even 2 games against 1-AA teams, 6-6 is already a joke. 5-7 has happened before - a number of years ago North Texas won the Sun Belt and finished 5-7 overall, they were allowed to go to the Sun Belt's bowl game.

I don't think it would happen though. It seems every year there are enough teams (if only sometimes barely.)
