Government health care and stupid public fail
Soooo the Australian government mandated the swine flu vaccine for young kids. Cause you know ... you're gonna die from this flu which is about non-existent, unless you count people who simply diagnosed any flu like symptoms as swine flu.
Andddddddddd kiddos who take the vaccine? Well the sort of have uncontrollable convulsions, severe vomiting, fever. One kid is hospitalized in critical condition.
Sooooooooo the AUS government has stopped the vaccination mandate.
This is the same quality vaccine YOU TOO can get here, provided you're OK with the US federal government agreement to indemnify the manufacturers from all liability. Sucker!

I can't say what it is like there now but in the past(when it was news here) it was hit really hard by it(of course, you wouldn't know because American media doesn't cover such things) so I can see why they would want to do it.

RE: Government health care and stupid public fail
There is an abundance of foolishness when discussing the vaccine debate.
Let's see more about this one kid (and, sadly, you don't mention the folks that have died from the "non-existent" swine flu or the thousands that die from more mundane flu). Let's see if it's more of the likes of Desiree Jennings. Is this another example where the imaginary ill effects of whatever it is that you decide to rail against are far, far worse than the real-world ill effects?
This is a timely post in one regard. I'd suggest you watch this episode of Frontline, which airs tonight.

Why the hell are you encouraging people to watch socialist PBS?

There's a difference between polio, chicken pox, MMR, etc .... and a swine flu vaccine which lacks clinical testing, and comes with the understanding that the manufacturer isn't liable if they ... you know ... KILL YOU. For the record I think all flu shots are a joke. Do people die from the flu? Sure. Especially the elderly that are already slipping and need only be sneezed on. The flu vaccine has so much agivent in it that every time I took it my immune system went into hyperdrive and I ended up feeling ****** for about a week afterwards. I haven't taken a flu shot in 4 years or so now ... and haven't gotten the flu in those 4 years, because I wash my hands.

I see this in a different light.
Illnesses don't impact everyone the same way
Vaccines don't impact everyone the same way
Medicine should not be practiced/mandated in a manner that forces everyone and their illnesses to be treated the same way.

I don't have TV, but if I did have TV, you can believe I'd be watching Spiderman on Toon Disney, instead of rotting my brain with PBS!

You are right to some extent, but vaccines can eliminate some diseases only when they are applied in a near-universal manner. Not only is the a-la-carte model ineffective public policy, but it puts kids at risk who have a legitimate reason to not take a given vaccine, or even kids with low immune function that do take vaccines.
Hambone, I would urge you in particular to watch this episode. IMHO, Frontline is still one of the best and most objective TV news programs available in the US.
And, yes, Robert, I am a bit of a hypocrite on the issue of PBS, but at least I do pay at least something for the programming.
Regarding flu vaccines - as I understand it, the net benefits of universal flu vaccines are not as clear as for other disease, but it still is a net benefit.

RE: Government health care and stupid public fail
don't disagree i-45... it was more of a generalization than an opinion. Certainly there are some people who shouldn't get certain vaccines for reasons only a doctor could articulate... unfortunately, due to way the government generally does things, there are rarely exceptions to their rules without (literally) an act of congress.

Then I guess you missed the honorable Luis Farrakhan telling people the swine flu vaccine is for population control.
