http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Stat...crime_rate

In 2008, New Orleans, St. Louis, Baltimore, Detroit, Washington (DC), Oakland, Kansas City, Newark, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Memphis, and Atlanta had more cases of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter per 100,000 people than Chicago.

Detroit was a very distant fourth, although it had a murder rate nearly double that of Chicago's rate.

My old hometown of Mobile actually only fared slightly better than Chicago, and Mobile has 1/15 the population of Chicago.

And at 113 murders through 116 days, Chicago's on pace for its fewest murders in a long time -- 20% fewer than 2009.
