The oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico has grown tremendously in just a day or so.

Satellite images analyzed by the University of Miami show the spill has expanded from the size of Rhode Island to something closer to the size of Puerto Rico, close to tripling.

Hans Graber, executive director of the university's Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing, said Saturday that the spill is moving faster and expanding much quicker than estimated.

Graber says the size of the slick was about 1,150 square miles on Thursday. By the end of Friday, he says it had tripled to about 3,850 square miles.

Graber says estimates of only 1,000 barrels spilling a day seem to be more public relations than anything accurate.

Once the spill hits Florida, how well do you think the tea-bagging socialist nutcase will do in the race for senate?

Your ignorance abounds. This is Obama's problem. The Democrats have shown us nothing but failure. They are in control.

Strange because those came from someone other than yourself. Be honest. Was it from Faux? Rush? A Republican senator? Who told you all of those are disasters?

I assure you, I came up with it independently. It's not hard, Obama is a dismal failure.

Come on SOAF. We know you can't think for yourself so it came from someone. It is ok to say who it was. Really. I won't laugh at you(well, not much anyway. Maybe just a little chuckle).

The list of Obama's failures is long. I can only think of one success.

Got the Nobel Peace Prize while being engaged in two wars and less than a few months in the Whitehouse.

Nobody with any knowledge of the industry should have ever said that. What has been said, and is true, is that the risks of drilling are lower than the risks of oil tankers. That is pretty well established. So, as long as we need oil, the lowest risk solution is to drill here. That's lowest risk, as in lowest environmental risk, lowest political risk, lowest economic risk, lowest risk, period.

With that being said, and I'm grateful for every word, then we should all look at this organization and be supportive of it. " So, as long as we need oil, the lowest risk solution is to drill here. Makes perfect sense. Give this a read and take action.

RE: Drill baby drill...........
I'm no fan of Obama, but piling on him for this is absurd. Like the birther thing. It's not like every single breath the guy takes is wrong, nor was it with Shrub. Nor was everything that Clinton or Reagan (two guys I like) did good.

We've got to get past this partisan "everything my guy did was good, everything your guy does is wrong," mindset.

If this leads to some sort of panic reaction to stop all drilling, I will criticize that. We're at greater risk of a major spill from a tanker than we are from a well, by several times even notwithstanding this event. And until we have a replacement for oil (and as of now there's none on the horizon) our choices are drill or tanker, not drill or don't drill.

If on the other hand the decision is to continue drilling but with more stringent standards (like Norway and New Zealand) that will be a decision that I support 110%. BP has a reputation for cutting corners (well deserved AFAIK) and it does appear that a few more precautions could have been taken here.
