MAC back up for papa john bowl
The secondary agreement with the Papajohns.com Bowl, located in Birmingham, Ala., will see the MAC serve as the back-up to both the Southeastern Conference (SEC) No. 8/9 and Big East No. 5/6 selections.

This may point to BE having access to Liberty Bowl some years.
Should know soon.

I think you are right that in the event both the Liberty and Papa can not provide a SEC team....the BE would move over to the Liberty.

The MAC really cleaned the SBC's clock with regards to backup agreements here suprisingly.

-The MAC got the Papa John's backup over SBC, likely available every year.

-The MAC picked up a backup in the Dallas Classic for both the Big Ten and Big XII to play 1 or the 2. I think this also means that in years where the game is CUSA-Big Ten/Big XII they'll fill in if neither Big Ten/Big XII can supply.

-Then out west, whenever the WAC has to backup in the Emerald/Poinsettia they take the WAC's spot in the New Mexico Bowl.

Conceivably this could give the MAC 6 bowls while the SBC is limited to 3.

Papajohns wont need a backup most years. PPJ moved up in SEC pecking order to #8 (shared with Liberty), instead of solely #9, so they will get an SEC team 75% of the time, imo.

From what I understand is that if the SEC cannot provide a team to the Papa John's or the Liberty, the Big East will take their spot in the Liberty freeing up a slot in the Papa J at least 50% of the time.

Well, we're not sure how the PPJ/Liberty sharing agreement will work, they said we would also play SEC in Liberty also. They haven't announced the final arrangements. If both don't have an SEC team, then you would have a point and the Mac is in the PPJ.

Hey Airport,
Did you see the language where the SBC can provide the backup if a better geographic fit exists? I'm not a geography major, but I'm pretty sure there will usually be a better geographic fit.

If Middle, Troy, Western Kentucky or UL-Lafayette are available, you can kiss that bid goodbye.

And as far as cleaning the Sun Belt's clock in the backup agreements?

We have two primarys
New Orleans
GMAC

Two backups
Little Caesars
St. Petersburg

and one additional:
Papa John's

Notice that four of those five are within our footprint.
Given that your best team (Central Michigan) brough around 2K to the GMAC last year, if one of the four SBC teams I mentioned is available, they will go before a 7-5 MAC team.

Yes I did but that is only 1 year out of 4 where the SBC is allowed to be a secondary backup.

Otherwise the MAC is backing up both the Big East and SEC in this game.

RE: MAC back up for papa john bowl
What the BE has to worry about, If only one SEC school is available between the 2 bowl games & SEC school goes to Liberty bowl. Liberty bowl likes C-USA school over BE. Doesn't that make PapaJohn's game MAC vs BE

BE would go to the Liberty and then it would be MAC vs. CUSA in Papa John's.
