And it is relatively close, so maybe a shot for great attendance.

RE: ULM & Baylor Sign 1:1 Football Deal
Geez, these road games first make me nervous. It seems like 90% of the time the BCS school pays out the guarantee and the second game gets cancelled, leaving the Belt/MAC/CUSA/WAC team scrambling for an FCS. Baylor makes millions on a home game and they won't even flinch to pay out the $200K cancellation clause (or whatever it is). That way they just got a home game with ULM for $200K instead of $550-$750K.... We have burned so many times that we are getting the home game first now. Just so there is no misunderstanding. I hope this game happens. It is a winnable game for ULM and beating a Big 12 school, even if it is Baylor - will feel fantastic!

That was my thought too. They will just buy their way out of the game.

Baylor will have no reason to buy out of the return game, unless ULM wins the first one, which could definitely happen, but I doubt they buy out if they win comfortably.

If Virginia and Maryland didn't buy out against us, I doubt Baylor does it.

UVA was a one game deal at MT. It was something crazy involving a number of MAC teams.

MD still had one game left at home after they came to MT.

This is a 1 for 1 with the first game at the BCS school. Whatever the buyout is, if its under a couple million, can be made at a Baylor home game against a 1-AA. I haven't examined their schedule to know who they have on the schedule the year ULM hosts Baylor, but if they can get another lesser team into Waco that year it'd benefit them financially to buy out the game at ULM. (under a typical contract)

AND Baylor has a history of doing it. A couple of years ago, they cancelled a return away game with a school about a month before the season started. Not saying it will happen, just that as Belt schools - we have to play defensive. K State tried everything that they could to try and cancel the game against NT down in Denton and eventually would only give us the weekend of Thanksgiving. That will be tough for us to fill up (as Fouts last home game ever). Baylor has ULM penciled in as the very first game of the season. So they are going to go on the road, against a Belt team - to start off the season? Scares me.

Supposedly there is a no-buyout clause in this particular contract so Baylor WILL be in Monroe in 2013. This will be interesting because we have a very good redshirt QB from Texas who will be a senior by that time and he'd love to play in this game. And with all the Texas players we have on the roster they'll look forward to the game both in 2012 and 2013.

RE: ULM & Baylor Sign 1:1 Football Deal
If a contract has a "no buyout" clause, what happens if the other team cancels the game? Let's say ULM destroys Baylor in Waco and Baylor alumni are up in arms, demanding the cancellation of the return trip... how much would they pay? There has to be an amount... just curious.

Baylor is a much better team then it was a few years ago when North Texas was beating them. ULM does not have a good chance to when either game.

They would have been better served if they would have signed that deal with Tulane or Memphis.

Louisville sued Duke in a no buyout situation and the court held ANY team would be a substitute for Duke football. I would expect similar regarding Baylor and the damages would be whatever you paid to get them as an opponent.

None taken but everyone sure seems certain that Baylor will buy out the Monroe home game. Was everyone as enthusiastic when Kansas State signed on to play the Cajuns in Lafayette? or Mississippi State in Ruston? or Oklahoma State at Troy?

Baylor is beatable. They may not be the sisters of the poor that they used to be, but they're one of the more beatable AQ schools that are pretty geographically close to Monroe. This is a very good contract for the Warhawks.

Hey SOT - we are 100% happy that ULM signed a home and home with Baylor. My wish is that ULM would have negotiated the home game on the front end of the contract because Big 12 schools that make more off of one game then the Belt schools do the entire season can easily buy out those games. They are desperate for Div I opponents at home due to the guarantees going up so schools like Baylor have found an easy way out - they schedule a 1-1, get the home game first, and pay the $200K for the buyout. It is what they would actually LIKE to pay for ULM to come to Waco but of course ULM probably wanted either a home and home OR a large payday. I hope the game happens in Monroe but would feel a lot better about that becoming a reality if the home game was simply played first.

BTW, I would make this exact same statement if the NT AD had signed a home and home with Baylor and put the home game as a return game. We have been burned way too many times to even list.

As stated before, Baylor's got a history of pulling that sort of s--t. It's a winnable game if you can get them at your house.

K-State was a different animal. We've played them several times at their house before arranging our deal with them, which I believe is actually a 2-1 but the important differnece was that our 1 was first and we don't return the two until 2011 and 2012.

I really hope it works out for you, but Baylor's got far to much to lose and much to much to gain in giving you the hose job.

Understood. We'll see what happens and I hope it's to our benefit. This has already happened to us once when Kansas was supposed to come to Monroe in 2012 but they bought out of that game.
