WKU? any murmurs about this?
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_...berns.html

It is a blog, assosiated with a paper, without a reporter's name attached to it, citing an unnamed source. I know WKU and the MAC had some passing interest a few years back. Anyhow, the play out of the Big 10, PAC 10 expansions will happen first, and I am sure Temple will want to wait that out first, but they do have the MAC agreement for FB only coming to an end in 2010.

What would be in it for WKU to move to the MAC?

What would the MAC offer that the Sun Belt doesn't? I wouldn't see WKU going to the MAC as a smart move.

RE: WKU? any murmurs about this?
Temple isn't interested in full membership. Their bread and butter is basketball and they aren't going to give up local rivals in the A10 to go to the MAC just for football. Temple certainly isn't going to commit to the MAC at this point because the odds appear too strong that the Big East will lose a team. Don't give me "they kicked them out before" that was a different time and different circumstances. Temple's then president wanted to drop football and came to the annual "how you doing on meeting the standards" meeting and told the commissioner they didn't meet them, wouldn't meet them, and wouldn't TRY to meet them.

The new leadership is investing in football and they gave UCLA all they wanted in the Eagle Bank Bowl.

If the Big East splits they are the single most obvious pick because so much of the TV money is basketball based. Having a good hoops presence in the #4 TV market is important. The football side is weaker in TV markets than the hoops side.

WKU? Who knows what they are thinking.

It would be a good move for b ball with Temple (do they play b ball in the MAC?), but I just don't see any advantage for the other sports, unless you like watching games in the cold.

Temple plays only football in MAC. All other sports are in the A-10.

I hope this is just a rumor which that is what it appears to be. I would stay in the Sun Belt if all possible. How would moving to the MAC conference be any better? I think the Sun Belt is a better conference then the MAC to be completely honest and I know you guys would believe the same.

Football:

Well for starters the MAC has four Bowl Tie in's and one standby (eagle bank) and the Sun Belt has one Bowl Tie in and three standbys.

Basketball: MAC RPI #16, Sun Belt RPI #22 and both, I think, are one bid conferences

So while I don't know if the move makes sense for WKU (there are other considerations ) I don't know on what basis you're going to say the Sun Belt is better than the MAC.

RE: WKU? any murmurs about this?
Sun Belt has two primary tie-ins both right in our turf.

MAC has Detroit, GMAC, Boise, and the may be back may not be back International Bowl.

Head-to-head over past few years is even. Our champs fought a thrilling OT duel.

TV deals are basically dollar equal on a per team basis.

All things being equal, WKU is likely to fare better in recruiting and fan support in a southern oriented league.

I'd much prefer our bowls in December weather.

As a WKU fan, I would not like to see a MAC membership. Nothing against the MAC..just not my cup of tea.

Your Bowl... not plural... You only get the other bowls if one of the other conference fails to deliver on their end.

Aside from the Humanitarian Bowl the MAC Bowls are indoors (Intnl, LC) or in a slightly better climate Tulsa.

Incorrect. We have two primary bowl tie ins GMAC and New Orleans. We signed a deal with the GMAC and they announced it right before the bowl game last season. We no longer have an secondary bow tie ins I believe they have expired.

Other considerations for SBC vs MAC

The MAC has horrible attendance and has been playing D1 football for years. The MAC has zero fan support. The SBC has only been playing D1 football for about ten years now and attendance is increasing every year along with the product on the field.

The SunBelt is on the way up. A rising conference The MAC is at best stagnant and on the way down.
