Problems with Homeschooling, part 666
http://www.chicoer.com/news/ci_14388171

Quote:Prosecutors allege the two victims were subjected to "hours" of corporal punishment by their parents on successive days last Thursday and Friday with a quarter-inch-wide length of rubber or plastic tubing, which police reportedly recovered from the parents' bedroom.

Police allege that the younger girl was being disciplined for mis-pronouncing a word during a home-school reading lesson the day before she died.

He said investigators are researching a possible connection to an Internet Web site set up by "fundamentalist Christian people" that recommends use of the same whip-like implement "as an appropriate tool for biblical chastisement ... to train a child from infancy to make them a happier child and more obedient to God because they are obedient to the will of their parents," said Ramsey.

I hope the older girl finds a new school before she tries to learn math and science, for her own safety.

I doubt the girl will ever see the parents again. BTW, the Amish are noted for their cruelty.

Tragic story.

Although, I don't see how this directly reflects on home schooling in general. There's no relationship. A crime was simply committed.

If she went to a 'regular' school, they could have just as easily beat her during the evenings while she did her homework or some other household tasks.

No Where in this article is there anything said about Homeschooling. The left disparages Home Schooling. I assume that YaYa here is pointing to this article as an indictment of Homeschooling.

"The teachings of the Pearls and their Tennessee-based No Greater Joy ministry, which brought in $1.8 million last year in sales of books, DVDs and the like, are widely known and normalized across many conservative Christian churches and home-schooling communities."

To be fair, public school can be dangerous as well

I was talking about shootings, but if you want to bring up domestic violence, it would be better to compare that with school fights.

...and you probably think this is indicative of all home schooling? Hmm, do you have more stories? Or is this the only indictment you have?

...waiting....

This isn't an indictment of homeschooling per se, it's an indictment of leaving religious fundamentalist wackos in charge of education.

It can certainly happen in public schools as well; see the Ohio Public school science teacher who felt an appropriate punishment was branding crosses on the arms of middle schoolers.

Religious fundamentalists are a key target demographic of homeschool suppliers; see places like homeschoolingbooks.com, for example.

There are religious schools in every place I've ever lived. I went to one for a few years. Guess where the problems are? I'll go ahead and tell you, the PUBLIC schools. Augusta Christian has an excellent record of producing college-bound kids, as does Hillcrest Christian Academy where I grew up.

Religious schools and fundamentalist religious schools are not the same thing.

Fortunately, places like the University of California have taken a stand and been supported by the courts that they are not required to recognize religious-based classes which are meant to circumvent college curriculum prerequisites.

Fundamentalism is fundamentalism. Anyone who attempts to deprive me (or others) of life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness because of a non-adherence to their particular set of religious beliefs is out of line.

How is homeschooling depriving you of anything?

But then there's those potentially violent school teachers and the principals who get put on infinite leave for reporting them to the cops.

Kindergarten teacher hates his aides and wants hit men to take them out

Is this an indictment on the entire school system or just one lone loon?

So your username is "Yahweh" and you hate religion. Nice...Are you the return of Firmbizzle?

By the way, Christian's aren't trying to deny you anything, but you hate them nonetheless. Can you actually explain this or do you just hate because they have different beliefs than you?
