U-46 planning on cutting 31 million from next years budget
Get ready for huge cuts. The State can't pay their bills. Federal money ($1 billion) goes away. School districts have to cut huge amounts to bring their budget in line. Currently, the stat owes over $12 million to U-46. ($220 million to CPS). U-46 is borrowing money to pay their bills and meet payroll. We need leaders that are ready to make the tough decisions. Students will suffer.
Can't wait to see what happens at State universities.
We have given unions raises and benefits that we can not afford. The board members did not want to rock the boat.
Get ready for some real pain.
Requested move to S&N

The State owes the U of I over $450 million. Without a massive Federal bailout, bankruptcy is just around the corner.

The fed does not have the money. They are running a 1.7 trillion dollar deficit right now. We are just pushing our debt up the hill. This day has been a long time coming. There is no magic way out.
Think what this will do to unemployment in Illinois.

U-46 has already made a bunch of cuts. A lot of extra-curricular activities (athletics and academics) are being cut this spring, and the room sizes continue to grow with less aides. This district is already in dire straits and it keeps getting worse. Union leaders need to work with mgmt to work out pay cuts or freezes vs. cutting all these jobs, but that is very unlikely. People are very narrow minded and never want to have it affect their $. I had co-workers, at a large company, tell me they need a raise rather than take a pay freeze and save other jobs. Well, they continue to cut jobs and soon it will be theirs. We are a very greedy society and many don't know how to budget during tough times.

Class sizes are increasing. In HS, there will be limits to number of classes you are able to take. A lot of students won't have the option of a 7th class. This will effect their ability to get into top universities as they will not be able to take extra electives. Many schools in u-46 are on the watch list. This is only going to get worse.
The other big issue U-46 is dealing with is Unfunded mandates.
