Florida was 2nd followed by California.

Though the 20 or so WKU signees from Fla. don't seem to be included in this report. 03-nutkick However Florida was helped out by the continued over-signings by the school from Troy, Alabama. 05-stirthepot

The numbers are similar to previous years. Even though I am from Texas, I have this impression (completely unresearched, unscientific) that Florida produces the best and most skill position players.

I'd like to see who produces the most, per capita-- would Louisiana have a chance ?

Georgia at #4 with 181. All the more reason why GSU would do well in FBS. Ga Tech and UGA can only take so many in the home state.

RE: Texas wins D-IA recruiting crown
For 2004 to 2008 recruits . . . and 2002 census data

1. Florida 10.7 per million people per year sign D1
2. Alabama 10.5
3. Mississippi 10.1
4. Georgia 9.9
5. District of Columbia 9.1
6. Louisiana 8.3
7. Texas 8.0

I wondered similar things a while back - and still have the data. :)

RE: Texas wins D-IA recruiting crown
I've heard a few talking heads say that Louisiana/Mississippi produces the most NFL athletes per capita.

and FYI:

This is the most up-to-date info I quickly found. I doubt the ratios have changed much.
