California doesn't learn - pushes socialized health plan
Is it possible California politicians haven't noticed what just happened in Mass? Is it possible they haven't seen the national polls indicating people don't want socialized health care? Is it possible they don't realize that every person who is unemployed, homeless or here illegally will run to this state because of all the freebies?

Quote:SAN FRANCISCO — Democrats in California revived a bill on Thursday that would create a single-payer, universal health care system in the state.

While the move came as questions arose over the prospects of Congress adopting national health care legislation, the author of the California bill, State Senator Mark Leno, said that the timing was coincidental. Mr. Leno said it was basically a long-planned reintroduction of a 2009 proposal that was effectively tabled because of its potential cost. But he did concede that Tuesday’s special Senate election in Massachusetts, in which Democrats lost their filibuster-proof 60-vote majority, was not completely lost on him.

Quote:“The cost of health care insurance in California is a major hindrance to our economy,” said Ms. Kehoe, citing large numbers of uninsured and people paying high rates. “If we could begin to trim some of those costs, there would be billions of dollars going into the economy for more productive use.”

Ms Kehoe is obviously an idiot.

i'll ask again. why can't they go in the opposite direction? how about giving a try to less restrictions? my knowledge of basic economics and business tells me that healthcare would immediately become cheaper

When they have an anti-trust exemption? Not very likely. Now if you get rid of the anti-trust exemption AND open up competition within states, I could see it come down. Having said that, if does it right, it could be good for the public and business alike. Unlike the Massachusetts version(though most in the state like it, costs are out of hand).
