Yeah, nuclear power. Good idea. Haiti never has earthquakes and the Hatians are so well educated that they can safelyy run a nuclear facility. Oh, then they have to store the waste. Where would they store it? THe ocean(dumb question, of course you righties would think that is perfectly acceptable)? 03-banghead
You have a very narrow/simplistic view of the world, my friend. Seriously.

I don't know if/that they need nuke power, but to act as if they aren't smart enough today, or couldn't be trained in the years it would take to build is racist.
Quote:So you think that somehow they will have building codes without government regulation? You can't tell me with a straight face that private industry would have building codes when there is nobody regulating the building. THey would build as cheap as possible to maximize profits. If it gets destroyed, you rebuild again cheaply.

No robert... I mean who ever said government regulation for something like building codes is a nono? You simply have no concept of what most Republicans think and simply paint with broad strokes your racist, sexist and segregationist stereotypes. In this one post, you stereotype Hatians, Whites, Southerners and Republicans... all the while trying to lay that claim at someone elses feet.
Quote:As for the second part, it isn't racist(I laugh that a white southern rightwinger would call someone else a racist), it is true. There are very few educated people there(though, the upper class is-much like here in the US). If a person has very little education, it will take more than a few years to train them. As for the nuclear power, why the hell would they need that much power to begin with-even if all their people lived at our electrical use standards and sold the power to the DR? THey don't. How about using currents/waves as power? Plenty of ocean to do it.
Again, try reading. I quite clearly said I wasn't convinced they needed it, and even the original poster only threw it out as a "maybe"... Best of my recollection, it takes 3-5 years to build a nuclear power plant. It wouldn't take that long to teach someone to operate a Nuclear Power Plant. The Navy does it all the time.... and it doesn't take that many people to do it either. In addition, there are a great number of educated Haitians living in the US who would welcome the opportunity to return home if there was a job waiting for them.

Once again, nobody said they NEED it, or even that it was the best idea... but to dismiss it out of hand because of a stereotype only has one definition... you're making a racist comment. Laughing at me just proves your folly. I'm a military brat and lived in more places that you'll probably ever see... with a wider variety of people than you'll probably ever know.

Quote:As for tourism, why not replant trees on the hills and elsewhere when rebuilding? I am sure it CAN become a destination for travelers at a lower cost than many nearby places. If they build hotels, the unemployment would go down. Not only from the hotels but the other supporting businesses. Hey, they could promote businesses to move there by offering low taxes when they want out of the US because of cap and trade(like you guys claim will happen)?
First, "you guys" doesn't include me. Second, wow... I said "let grass grow"... FORGIVE me for not saying "plant trees". If you've ever been there, you'd know that you wouldn't need to plant them.

As to tourism, I also already made your suggestions, but with unemployment at 70%, tourists won't want to go there. Get unemployment down to 20% or less and you've got a winner. The two WILL go hand-in-hand, but you can't simply rely on tourism.

as far as laughing goes...
I, someone you apparently consider a racist southern redneck, have already suggested everything YOU have and more, and I did it without painting "the other side" as a collection of morons and without claiming we couldn't find enough intelligent Haitians to operate a Nuclear power plant.

Yes, Robert... you are guilty as charged of making racist/nationalist and political stereotypes. The ACLU will be revoking your membership forthwith.

Whatever. Most Haitian aren't well educated(unless they are wealthy or live here) that is a fact not a racist remark. I never said they were dumb, just not educated.

this is typical liberal thinking...you guys always equate human beings as nothing but working class union types who can only perform simple and mindless tasks and anyone above such distinction is an evil and greedy opportunist conservative.

You said there weren't enough of them that could learn enough in a few years to operate a nuclear power plant. That sounds pretty dubm to me. They DO have Doctors and Hospitals in Haiti, you know... and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to operate a power plant... even a nuclear one.

Most stereotypes have some basis in fact, Robert. That doesn't mean that you can paint people with a brush and not be considered a racist. If a Republican had said it, you'd be labeling them. Heck, you label me simply because of where I live.

It is a genetic fact that people of African-American descent often have larger lips and wider noses than their Anglo-Saxon counter-parts... but to call someone big-lipped and flat-nosed simply because they are black would be racist... and that is exactly what you do... while complaining that "the right" does it.

03-lmfao Nice spin. You guys are the ones that treat anyone that isn't white collar as crap by saying they don't deserve to make a decent living because of the work they do. You guys are the ones who look down on people who are blue collar which is interesting since the Republicans have as many if not more blue collar workers that vote for Republicans against their best interest.
