but with our intelligance network and anti-terrorist military units, why don't "remove"the muslim clerics and their followers with clandestine operations? European nations would join us and countries that host these terrorists would not prevent it. Hell, they would most likely welcome it.

It's time to quit screwing around with them.

Because we are afraid of collateral damage.

I wholeheartedly agree. But just because I'm on board doesn't mean our current leadership is.....something about extending an open hand instead of a clenched fist is what I believe was said.

Yeah, and that's working out well. We've had 2 high-profile acts so far.

I am not surprised that you guys just don't get it. Could it be because we are trying to not get directly/physically involved in the overthrow of governments in order to make this more for the people by the people and not some American meddling. We know how well meddling has worked throughout the world in the past.

Unfortunately, that's a large part of it. But that's not unique to this administration.

There's a story that's been circulated widely enough to indicate that it's true, whether officially confirmed or not (and I happen to believe it) that on the second or third night of the Afghanistan operation we had a predator shot to take out Mullah Omar and passed because of collateral damage concerns. If we had taken that shot and killed him then, I'm guessing Afghanistan would have gone a lot different--and a lot better--and Iraq would have either been unnecessary or gone better.

You have to ignore the horror of war, that is, if you want to win.

Therein lies the rub. You have to ignore the horror if you want to win. We don't want to ignore the horror. Therefore we don't try to win.

Of course, the greatest horror is fighting forever with no intent to win. We haven't done that since Vietnam. Except Afghanistan. And Iraq.
