University of Miami has moved up almost 20 spots in US News and World Report's "America's Best Colleges" ranking since 2001.It is the fastest move of any major university in the country.Their four keys areas of continuing academic improvement are:1)SAT score of incoming freshmen;2)% of incoming freshmen that were Top 10 in their HS graduating class;3)six year graduation rate;4)freshman retention rate.
Also focus on the learning environment included: % of classes with less than 20 students,student-faculty ratio and alumni giving rate.

05-stirthepotI thought it was interesting considering some of the moves UT has made since the merger.

Not surprised that a private school on the ocean with a big endowment would be making strides like that.

UT has a modest endowment and is an open admissions school, which doesn't help in getting the best students. All state schools in Ohio are technically open admissions by law, but many (OSU,Kent,Ohio,BG etc.) have branch campuses where they send students who need more preparation and these students aren't included when national rankings come out.

UT is making very positive strides, and even in this tough economy, that should position it for continued growth in the future.
