Rockets up by 10 at half time. They need this win over the 0-6 Retrievers.

Rockets win 76 - 67.

Leading scorers:

Barnett 26
Albrecht 14
Dressler 13

All are freshman. The future is bright.

This team is going to go places long term. The freshmen have an energy I haven't seen since the Stempin/Fedak days.

fun game today (for a change) with a team that was decent but didn't overmatch us really at any positions - even thoug they had the big center. good energy and execution. barnett is looking better and better on the glass and going stronger to the basket. molo was solid - scoring, defending, rebounding. dressler is coming along a bit. he could be good if he can transform his body a bit over the next yr or two. bastfield had one of his better games. don't like where the cross/freelove thing is going. he (along w molo) seems to be the object of the most cross scowls this season and is clearly holding back his game trying to fit in. cross clearly has a problem athletic guards who like to freelance and create. however, we did look like a pretty well coached team today.

good women's game tuesday, btw, would be nice to pack the house, a win over dayton could push us over come selection sunday.

Happy with the win but after closing with a 35-19 run in th efirst half I was disappointed with the energy in the second half. Lo and Salter are still struggling to get it done inside- Lo had a stretch where he put us on his back but he also shot about 3 15 footers with no chance in hell and got several shots blocked. He just doens't have the strong hands and Cross alluded, after the game, that he tires easily.

Salter had a couple boards and that was about it. Barnett is getting better and better as is Dressler and if Albrecht locates his lost shooting touch we'll be better than I expected. Albrecht IS taking it to the hoop much more which makes the defender hesitate a littel.

Bastfield: 0 shots in the first half, fianlly took a couple ill-advised forays to the hoop but at least he showed his defender that he knew he was allowed to shoot. Played a very nice floor game though. He constantly passes up open three looks and backs up and resets. Guarding 4 guys is much easier than guarding 5.

That center for UMBC is one large chunk of humanity, no? Wow! And that blonde kid cold shoot a little. Still a win over an 0-6 team is stil a win and the growth of Barnett and Dressler (5 for5) is fun to watch.

This is why I don't have a problem, with what Bastfield does.... 7 assists; 1 turnover. I would rather have him set-up the offense and look to pass and make a play than trying to force one into the land of the trees.

RE: Rocket v UMBC
Nice win for UT. During the first half I was texting my brother (who forgot about the game) he said living and dying by the three, I said yeah but there so close there gonna start falling. We were 2-9 then went 8-14 so a pretty good turn around. I will say this was the best I have seen the team look.

I would say I was a little frustrated at times with Larry because, he would get the ball down to Mo, and since Larry never shoots the ball and is rarely an aggressor Mo was doubled alot and I would say had atleast 5 Turnovers but the box score said only 3. Its funny I expect every guard to be like kasief Payne because he was just so good at knowing when to dish it off when to shoot, and when to drive.

Yeah it really disappoints me about Freelove seamed like he had alot of air taken out of him. He is going to be VITAL to this teams success, you have to have some type of depth, and right now we have very little at guard and at forwards for that matter. Freelove has the game I just dont want it to be like Claytons was last year were it seemed he came on at the end of the year, instead of being consistent off the bench.

Great Job by the freshmans I would have to think this is probably the best game they couldve played. We outrebounded them 37-26. But we only forced 8 TO, If we can out rebound teams like that I guess I will take 8 TO but overall we are one of the worst teams in the country forcing TO.

I hope Mo is not severally hurt because he is a big asset to are team. Great game by Jake, and as shaky as everyone thought his ball-handling was early on in the year, he has confidence and I knew he can create his own shots and he has good court-vision

Go Rockets tough game coming up on Tuesday

I certainly don't want him to be our primary offensive threat but I suspect he gets more assists when he's at least taking a couple shots than when he's not- If I'm guarding him I play off in the passing lanes until he makes me pay attention. Nevertheless, I agree, his Assist/TO ratio is pretty good-and he seems to usually have his head in the game.

Freelove and Cross seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum in regards to Freelove's tenedency to freelance. I don't think its serious-nothing on the order of Amos's disagreements with Cross last year. Freelove is a freshman who plays like a freshman. No biggy, I don't think. Mo hurt what looked to me like his left knee. Was limping some but walking around. If he's hurt we're in serious trouble. For all his offensive shortcomings he provides our only real inside threat and with Barnett, our only real toughness.

Cant blame Cross for not liking the most athletic player on the team because it reminds him of the players last year. Even though we have had some players start to be the goto guys I would really, like to see some of the offense ran around Freelove because he is a natural scorer with very good floor vision. Mo had an MRI done on his right elbow after the game, he is ready to play for the game on Tuesday. Very tough game coming up hopefully ut can put up a good fight.
