Has Pawlenty ever pardoned a hardened criminal who later committed a bad crime? I would think that would be possible in a somewhat liberal state like Minnesota.

Huckabee is more sensible than most politicians. He's not the type to sit and smash someone's ideals just because they aren't his. I kinda feel bad for him.

No, he has not. Pawlenty has only granted pardons for minor offenses after the sentence was served.

Someone mention Palin. She is not going to be President, there are many better candidates the Repubs can put up there.

Yea, but right now she is the one rasing all the cash with the book.

That is one decision he got wrong. The original sentance was proven correct. We need to build more prisons and lock thugs up forever. People don't change. You can tell in elementry school which ones will go to Penn State and which ones will go to the State Pen.

Each state needs to decide what crimes are worthy of prison. I would leave prisons only for repeat non-violent offenders and one-time violent offenders.

But to say that people don't change is arguable. There are people who were caught under possession of drugs or whatever and they come out and never do it again. It's really case by case on weather or not they'll do it again.

Nah. The Repubs still love him. The guy killed socialist police. What can be better than that!?

You're a disgusting person.

Ninerfan1, why did you quote that moron? I read his post and it made my blood boil.

Robert, you are worthless scum that serves no purpose whatsoever on this board. You have not added anything intellectual to any one single thread on this entire forum. Instead, you resort to name calling and ignorant and inflammatory posts. You epitomize troll, but yet you continue to post here. I have no problem listening to someone espouse their views that are different from mine as long as they have used their brain function to come up with those views. It is obvious that you do not have that ability.

If I was still an acting mod on this board, I would delete almost every single one of your posts because they are irrelevant and add nothing to the discussion. Hell, I would probably move to ban you. I still might start that anyway.

You're a worthless troll!
Even if I did write something relevent and added something(which I do occasionally), you wouldn't listen to what I say. I know it and you know it. Of course, you can't read this so it really doesn't matter.

RE: Huckabee's political career over?
Interesting take on this incident, which - if true - causes me to reduce my position on Huckabee (perhaps this should be the reason his political career is over ... I've never had any desire for it not to be over for one reason or another).

http://www.abpnews.com/content/view/4605/53/ Wrote:The Dec. 1 police shooting of suspected cop killer Maurice Clemmons has renewed allegations that, as governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee paid more attention to preachers and professed jailhouse conversions than prosecutors and parole boards in deciding to commute the sentences of prisoners.
...
While many of Huckabee's pardons were recommended by parole boards, in some he overrode objections of prosecutors, judges and victims' families and followed recommendations of Baptist preacher friends who vouched for petitioning inmates by claiming they had been born again.

The previously best-known allegation of misplaced mercy became an issue in Huckabee's presidential candidacy in 2008. Shortly after taking office as governor, Huckabee supported parole for Wayne Dumond, a man sent to prison for raping a distant cousin of Bill Clinton.

A pastor, radio commentator and conservative political activist in Fayetteville, Ark., named Jay Cole organized other evangelicals in the state to lobby Huckabee for Dumond's release. Cole was a friend of the governor's.

Huckabee's behind-the-scenes efforts to pressure the Clinton-appointed parole board to set Dumond free won praise from right-wing politicians and pundits, who claimed the convicted rapist had been framed by the Clintons' political machine.

After his release, Dumond raped and killed a young woman in Missouri. He died in prison in 2005. Police believed he was also responsible for another murder after Arkansas set him free.

I don't mind him showing compassion. I do mind him being a sucker for manipulation by fake piety and being beholden to religious special interests. Especially when it results in people being killed.

RE: Huckabee's political career over?
Dumond sounds like more of a mistake than the Washington State dude. There he only let him face the possibility of parole. Dumond appears to be a political appeasement. One thing to keep in mind however, Huckabee is more of a populist, and more moderate on some issues involving taxation, law and order and poverty due to his pastoral background. That was the knock on him early on, that he was not "conservative enough". He appeals to the social conservative base and except when he's up against an Obama, African Americans who are socially conservative and fiscally liberal. Given that he probably is not the right guy for 2012. The Republicans need a deficit hawk who is socially conservative and growth oriented. So in that kind of fight, Pawlenty and Palin get higher grades. And if McDonnell can figure out how to balance the Virginia budget this time and bring in jobs, he's going to look like a candidate as well.

The ironic thing is that, in a presidential race, Huck will be accused of being soft on crime by the same liberals who are notoriously soft on crime. But he'll be eaten by his own in the primaries.
