It's Brawl Week!
1st Meeting October 26, 1895
Last Meeting November 28, 2008
Last Result PITT: 19-15
Next Meeting November 27, 2009
Number of Meetings 101
All-Time Series PITT: 61-37-3
Largest victory PITT: 53-0 (11/08/1904)
Current Streak PITT: Won 2
Longest PITT Win Streak 15 (1929-1946)
Longest WVU Win Streak 5 (1992-1996)
Last ten games 5-5

Some Highlights from the series:

1970 - WVU lead 35-8 at the half only to be shut out in the second half and lose 36-35. Coach Bobby Bowden said, “That is still my darkest day in coaching,”

1994 - Pitt took the lead with just 38 seconds left in the game. WV WR Zach Abraham got behind DB DeNorse Mosley to catch the game winning touchdown. (I was physically ill after that game)

2007 - The Grand Daddy of them all. A 28 point dog coming in, 4-7 Pitt played the defensive game of their life and upset the #2 ranked Mountaineers 13-9 knocking them out of the BCS Championship game. The game was voted "Game of the Year" by EPSNU.

Neither team has won more than 2 in a row since Pitt broke WVU's 5 game winning streak in 1997. Pitt will be going for number 3 tomorrow.

My prediction is that Pitt's DL will be too much for WVU's OL to handle, and Pitt wins in the second half. Of course history shows that there are no sure things in this series.

RE: It's Brawl Week!
I think Pitt is the better team. But West Virginia is dangerous, and if the Mountaineers can stay away from turovers, they could win this game. I hope that Pitt wins, we take care of business against Illinois, and it's 11-0 versus 10-1.

Records and Rankings are thrown out the window in this game. This game is what football is all about. It doesn't matter how much Pitt is better on the field than. WVU definately has a shot to win this game esp with it being at home. I expect a slugfest and the stronger team to finish in the end. Good luck to the Eers on Friday.

I remember that '94 game. Couldn't believe the ending to that one. I think there is a video of the TD for the 'eers on Youtube.

Let's hope for a Pitt victory!

You should have put in the 1965 game in the highlights. The 111 combined points in 1965 for WVU's 63-48 win in was the most ever scored by two teams under present day rules. I can understand why, since it's probably before your time. But I was at this game at old Mountaineer Field, and it still ranks as one of the most exciting games I've ever seen...

You would be correct. I was 2 at the time and living in OH. I wouldn't have been able to tell you what a Panther or Mountaineer was at the time.

I think the game will be close at halftime but the adrenaline wears thin for the Mounties in the 2nd half.

Pitt has too many options on offense... 2nd half will be one-sided.

Final: 34 - 13

If Pitt wins by 3 TDs, I'll give you +3, instead of the +2 like we'd already discussed. But if they don't, you should do likewise, dude... 05-stirthepot

In all seriousness Bit, I will be interested to see how the Mountie's OL handles Pitt's DL. If things go as I expect, Brown will be running for his life.

You forget, Brown is pretty good at running for his life. I think he makes better plays outside the pocket most of the time...

The first half played out as i thought, obviously the second didn't. Got give the mountees a lot of credit, they never let Pitt get comfortable except maybe late in the 4th.

I guess its time for me to pay up.

Thank goodness for WVU's defense. We really took Pitt out of their game plan until their last 2 drives...

I gave you the points anyway, Pitt83. For a Pitt fan, you ain't too shabby... 04-cheers
