I have to buy this house. Imagine the possibilities!
You can be President Barack Obama’s next-door neighbor. It’s true. The Chicago home right next door to President Barack Obama’s home (home to the right, photo above) just came on the market, reports the Huffington Post.
Located at 5040 S. Greenwood Avenue, Chicago, IL 60615, the 17-room, turn-of-the-century home is owned by Bill and Jacky Grimshaw who have lived there since 1973, according to NBC Chicago. The Grimshaw’s home was used to house officers during World War II and became a boarding house for a small military school. Where are the Grimshaw’s going? To a condo.
Interestingly, the home is going on the market unpriced. Interested buyers are being asked to register and then will be vetted to make sure they have the financial chops to afford the house. Zillow’s Zestimate is $1,829,000 (as of 9/11/09) and recent sales in the immediate Kenwood neighborhood range from $1.5 to $2.5 million.
What would it be like to live next to the Obamas? You could be called into babysitting duty, as the Grimshaws sometimes did for the Obama children, and you could be very annoyed by the heavy security surrounding the neighborhood, as the Grimshaw’s can attest.
It’s an advantage not having him here, because the security increases tenfold. It’s challenging and really disrupts the neighborhood,” Jacky said to CNBC reporters this morning.
Ouch. But, just imagine never having to lock the doors to your home.
