I have to buy this house. Imagine the possibilities! 02-13-banana

You can be President Barack Obama’s next-door neighbor. It’s true. The Chicago home right next door to President Barack Obama’s home (home to the right, photo above) just came on the market, reports the Huffington Post.

Located at 5040 S. Greenwood Avenue, Chicago, IL 60615, the 17-room, turn-of-the-century home is owned by Bill and Jacky Grimshaw who have lived there since 1973, according to NBC Chicago. The Grimshaw’s home was used to house officers during World War II and became a boarding house for a small military school. Where are the Grimshaw’s going? To a condo.

Interestingly, the home is going on the market unpriced. Interested buyers are being asked to register and then will be vetted to make sure they have the financial chops to afford the house. Zillow’s Zestimate is $1,829,000 (as of 9/11/09) and recent sales in the immediate Kenwood neighborhood range from $1.5 to $2.5 million.

What would it be like to live next to the Obamas? You could be called into babysitting duty, as the Grimshaws sometimes did for the Obama children, and you could be very annoyed by the heavy security surrounding the neighborhood, as the Grimshaw’s can attest.

It’s an advantage not having him here, because the security increases tenfold. It’s challenging and really disrupts the neighborhood,” Jacky said to CNBC reporters this morning.

Ouch. But, just imagine never having to lock the doors to your home.

In all seriousness the govt. should purchase that property and sell it when Obama leaves office.

Yup, Presidential houses like this one should be scooped up by the Smithsonian for future musuem use.

I would love an insiders peak at what it would be like living next to a President with Secret Service protection. Do you have to go through the whole security thing everytime you come home? Or do you get to give the knowing wave as you go through the cordons? If you are out raking leaves, do you share a story with the agents? Bring them a coffee when you get your newspaper? What if you have teenagers and all their friends come over?

I have a bit of experience with the US Capital Police when they provided security for Speaker Hastert at his house in IL and while he was working in District. They were all of bunch of really professional regular Joes. Those that manned the always running vehicle were always open to shooting the shite, at least with us Staff guys. Not so sure about the public wandering up though.....

Warmongering rightwing nutcases with guns should not be allowed to buy the house at least until Obama's Presidency is over. So you should not be allowed.

I think you need to go to the pharmacy to pick up your refill of meds since you seem to be out of them.

But Robert, I'm going to buy the property and turn it into a Halfway House for detainees released from Gitmo. I'm not going to live there. Hey, I have class and standards.

Besides, Bill Ayers, another Terrorist, just lives a few houses down. The detainees would be welcome in the neighborhood.

If I could afford it I'd buy that place and let you live there rent free with the proviso that you'd turn it into a modern day Animal House.
