Pitt Fans - good places to stay near some nightlife in Pittsburgh?
Putting together my plans to hit the road for the game on December 5th. Any suggestions on places to stay near the stadium that is also close to some places to [hopefully] celebrate a big Bearcat victory? :)

Also, tailgate at the stadium or somewhere else?

Thanks!

The Matrix is a good nightclub to visit. Station Square and the South Side(Carsen St.) as a whole are the spots to be at. Theres some nightclubs and bars downtown but I wouldn't go to them because if you make a wrong turn you could hit the ghetto in a heartbeat ie trying to find the Strip District(also has nice clubs and bars). Also very close to Heinz Field is Jerome Bettis's sportsbar and grill.

Any heads up on good tailgating lots? We are making an extended family reunion out of this with family from the Burg. Looking forward to it.

Also, is the thinking that this will be the BE featured game? If its a night game, better bring the 100 proof peppermint schnapps and the hot chocolate.

I'm thinking more along the lines of bars, not really looking for any night clubs. I'm 30, going with a 37 and a 40 year old (both of them are Ohio State fans first, UC fans 2nd). I know for a fact that they won't be interested, and I'm more of a laid back drink 15 beers kind of guy :).

The Jerome Bettis sports bar option sounds interesting...

Rath, I expect the game to be a 3:30 national game, personally.

Ok, time to revisit this. I've read up through TexanMark's guide, but we are looking to stay outside of town a bit to avoid the congestion in town. Any suggestions out south or west of town (towards I-70)? We'll be looking for a place not too far away that has places to eat and drink and watch the games that afternoon.

If thats the case the Meadowlands exit has plenty of hotels and a casino and racetrack. It has an Outlet Mall across the street. Its 2 exits north of I70 on I70. I forget the exact hotels in that general area. There's not too many bars in that exact part of town. The Casino has a decent bar. That exit is roughy 45 minutes from Pittsburgh.

Also i'm going to be at a bar in Canonsburg if you want to chill and grab a few drinks before we head up to Heinz.

I remember going to Mario's back in the day. They had the best food around, IMO. I wonder if they serve it like they used to - or if it's even there still...

You have an address? We are leaving Dayton at 4AM, then staying Saturday night so we can catch the games that evening on TV (especially the SEC championship game). We figured we be pulling into downtown by 9AM or so.

Yeah, that would be great. Having a guide to get me up to Heinz field couldn't hurt either... :)

Going to Heinz is easy... Its finding a spot to park is the hard part...

What you do is, in Washington PA go 79 North go about 15-20 miles north and you'll see 376(old 279), head east. A word of advise is to be in the left lane on 376 once you hit the tunnels. Once you get past the tunnels go to the far left lane. Once your there follow the signs. Its a b1tch and once you get past the tunnels its confusing as sh1t even for a local sometimes with the construction going on.
