Just got off the phone with someone covering the IOC events.

Rio was a favorite entering this round. Mardid a very close second. Madrid most likley lost as the Olympics will be in London in 2012 and the IOC does ot like to have events on the same continent in a row. Rio is obvious. Brazil is a new global economy and the Olympics have not been is SA. The Obama's personal stories, as oppossed to facts about Chicago, destroyed Chicago's chances. They came across as arrogant and treated the decision as if it was about them and not about Chicago. This from a country/world that loves Obama.

As I posted on another thread, do you think that if you spend 8 months telling the world that we are to blame all of their problems, then try to convince them that we should be rewarded with the Olympics, maybe there's a bit of a credibility problem there?

This does go to show that "Words Mean Things" and no matter who you are or more importantly in THIS CASE, "Who You Think You Are", those Words can come back to bite you in the rump with a vengeance.
