I've seen Killswitch live. They're amazing!

I'd list these guys:
Metallica (specifically Master of Puppets)
Iron Maiden
Killswitch Engage
Shinedown
Judas Priest
Pantera
White Zombie

and of course, the godfathers of Heavy Metal

Well mostly looking for recent stuff. Alt metal I guess?

Older stuff I like in this realm are Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, etc

The only metal bands I listen to is Protest the Hero or Dillinger Escape Plan

Please do not list Mastodon and Disturbed in the same sentence again.

Im more into drone/sludge/post metal, which Im guessing isnt what you're after, but...

Anywho, stick with Black Sabbath.

Mudvayne is a favorite of mine.
FFDP lost their edge with the new album.
Older Godsmack is good.

I have a tough time finding good new bands for two reasons.
1) I do not listen to much music radio or watch video music anymore.
2) Not many stations specialize in metal.
3) Even when I do search for new music, there is so much crap to sort through to find the good stuff, that eventually I just get fed up and just look for the bands I already like. This is why when people get in their thirties and forties, they start to complain about how horrible today's music is, and then get all nostalgic about the music of their high school and college years.

Staind (older stuff)

I listened to All That Remains and their record is pretty poppy if you ask me.
