Alone is the correct modifier there.

RE: Big XII Dumping Independence Bowl
So if Independence Bowl is ACC #9 starting in December 2010, does that mean the GMAC gets ACC #8 in January 2011, or is that now up for grabs?

#8 will be in congressional bowl.. Gmac was going to get #9. Gmac has to be back on the table.

looking good for us. having USA coming online soon should help too. the GMAC would be an ideal pick up. good location, good bowl support from the community, good television time slot, good all around for the Belt. Let's hope Wrong Waters can actually GET IT DONE this time.

RE: Big XII Dumping Independence Bowl
The new ACC deal with the Independence has to improve the Sun Belt's chances of landing the GMAC. I just can't see the people in Mobile settling for ACC #9, knowing that such a team might only be eligible once or twice every four years, when they can have a guaranteed Sun Belt #2 against the MAC and not have to sweat at all about whether their contracted teams will qualify.
Can the MWC sustain six bowls (Las Vegas, Poinsettia, New Mexico, Armed Forces, Humanitarian, and Independence)? You have to think that they will either fold the New Mexico Bowl or drop the Humanitarian Bowl. The latter would leave the folks in Boise trying to get either the MAC, Sun Belt, or CUSA. It would have made more sense for the Independence to sign ACC against CUSA.

MAC will go to Boise.
Sun Belt would never make a run at a game there is no chance of making money off of.

Sun Belt to the frozen tundra would not be a good idea . . .

yes, the Belt needs to concentrate on bowls in the southeast. anything out of that region would be aweful for Belt fan attendance.

I think we will add Mobile and might have a flex arrangement where New Orleans can opt to pass on the Sun Belt champ if they want and in that case Mobile will take them. Probably sign new back-up deals for Motor City and Birmingham/St. Pete

Just to be 100% clear, for those who enjoy interpreting and extrapolating things that are not actually there, I did not say that the Sun Belt would be interested in the Humanitarian Bowl. My statement was that the folks in Boise would be left trying to get either the MAC, Sun Belt, or CUSA. You can't stop desperate people from asking questions. All you can do is say no after they ask.

Well, where's the fun if one cannot do that . . .

MWC #3 is usually a pretty good team but they better cross their fingers and hope they don't get a steady diet of San Diego State, UNLV, New Mexico, and Colorado State. They don't travel for nothing. Wyoming travels fairly well but a home sellout is 10% of the state coming to a game. BYU certainly travels though the casinos and bars will be seriously disappointed. I watched 7 BYU fans split a single Sprite in Memphis. TCU at least is close.
They had proposals from the WAC, Sun Belt, C-USA, and MAC and I understand passing on the MAC because they've not shown the ability to deliver ticket sales or TV in the south but why sign a long-shot deal with the ACC?
Well, to answer your question, since 2004, they have qualified 9 or more once (last year). In 2004 (11 games) 7 tms , 2005 (11 games) 8 tms , 2006 (first year with 12 gmaes) 8 tms, 2007 8 tms, and 2009 10 tms.
It doesn't look good this year for the ACC as well. They are 21-13 OOC with a couple of bad losses to D1aa opponents. With the conference schedule now if full gear, those teams that didn't take care of their OOC schedule are going to be hard pressed. I bet 8 at the most but a good shot at only 7.
Just as I had heard through the local grapevine. ACC #7 looks to be a very solid tie in.
